
Green Wave Barely Breaks Under AAC-Leading UTSA

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane took on UTSA tonight for their final game of February, during which they gave the conference's first-place Roadrunners a run for their money. Tulane closely contested UTSA throughout the game, but the Roadrunners ultimately secured a 77-74 win.
UTSA held an early lead halfway through the first quarter 13-6, but Tulane tied the game in one minute with a seven-point streak. Their comeback put them at just one point behind when the period ended 16-15.
The teams traded buckets throughout the second and reached halftime with Tulane in the lead, 37-32.
The Wave was scoreless for the first several minutes of the third quarter but a couple of consecutive sinks by Pittman got them back on track. Sadie Shores then put in six points and the Wave ended the quarter leading 51-47.
The score was close throughout the game, but Tulane spent the most time in the lead by four minutes.
The teams entered the last five minutes of the showdown at 61-60 with Tulane ahead, but the Roadrunners pulled off 17 more points in the final minutes of the game. They managed a seven-point streak before the final minute, but Victoria Keenan kept the Wave in the fight. She scored Tulane's final six points of the game to keep them within reaching distance of the win.
A couple of fouls from the Wave in the closing seconds sealed their fate, as Sidney Love made four free throws to push the Roadrunners over the edge and claim the win 77-73.
Kyren Whittington led the Wave in points with 22, making tonight the fifth time this season she scored over 20 points in a single game.
Pittman and Keenan both provided Tulane with 13 points, while Pittman led the team in rebounds with nine.
Roadrunner Jordyn Jenkins, who leads the AAC in points scored and averaged per game, registered her season-high field goals made at 11. She also logged a double-double, putting up 24 points and 10 rebounds. Love led UTSA in assists with seven, while Aysia Proctor gave 16 points.
Keenan added three three-pointers to her nationally ranked total and now sits in the NCAA top 30 with 71 made in the season. Keenan also ascended to 14th in the NCAA for 3-point percentage with 44.9%. She also reached a career 100 steals having added two tonight.
The Roadrunners claimed more rebounds with 39 versus Tulane's 31.
The next stop for the Green Wave is Birmingham, Alabama, where they will take on the UAB Blazers on Tuesday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m.
