Tulane Shoots Past Charlotte, 78-64

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball (16-12, 10-5) shot nearly 60 percent from the field to roll to victory over Charlotte (10-18, 3-12) 78-64 in Uptown on Wednesday night. The Green Wave connected at a 58.3 percent clip from the floor and knocked down nine three pointers to secure the season sweep of the 49ers.
With the win, Tulane reached 10 victories in conference play for the third time under Head Coach Ron Hunter. The Green Wave won at least 10 league games in back-to-back seasons finishing 12-6 in 2022-23 and 10-8 in 2021-22. The Wave also improved to 13-3 at home this season including 7-1 in conference play.
Offensively, the Green Wave was efficient inside and out against the 49ers defense. Tulane tallied 36 points in the paint while shooting 67.9 percent inside the three-point line. Meanwhile, from distance the Wave connected on nine threes led by Kaleb Banks with five to match his career high.
Banks paced four players in double figures for the Tulane with 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from downtown. He also led the team with seven rebounds while notching his 10th game with at least 20 points this season.
Rowan Brumbaugh followed with 18 points to mark his 24th consecutive game with double figures in scoring. The redshirt sophomore also added four assists and a pair of steals.
Rounding out the top scorers for the Wave were Kam Williams with 14 points and Gregg Glenn III with 12.
The contest got off to a similar start as the previous matchup between Tulane and Charlotte in December. The Green Wave opened with the first five points of the night before building a double-digit lead in the opening seven minutes.
Tulane extended its advantage to 19 points on multiple occasions thanks to a stellar start by Banks and Brumbaugh in the first half. The duo combined for 30 points in the opening frame to lead the Wave to a 44-29 lead at the break.
The Green Wave kept the momentum rolling in the second half as it reached its largest lead of the night at 64-40 with 13:17 left to play. Tulane ultimately cruised to victory down the stretch securing the season sweep of the 49ers with aa 78-64 win.
Up next, the Wave will head to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday, March 1. The game between Tulane and the Golden Hurricane is set to tipoff at 1 p.m. on ESPNU.
