
Baseball Rolls To 9-5 Victory Over Nicholls on Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (12-4) earned a 9-5 victory over Nicholls on Tuesday, March 11, at home on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Will Clements (1-0) started for Tulane and went the first three innings with two hits and one run allowed plus three strikeouts. Garrett Payne threw a pair of innings in relief surrendering an unearned run with four strikeouts. Gavin Smith was the next man out of the bullpen for Tulane and he threw a scoreless frame. Wes Burton entered the game in the seventh and surrender a three-run home run in his third of an inning worked. Tayler Montiel struck out both the batters he faced in the seventh and also threw a scoreless eighth to finish his outing with three punch outs. Jacob Moore closed this one out with a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
The loss went to the Colonels Koen van 'T Klooser (0-4) as he allowed six runs (one earned) in five innings in his start.
Connor Rasmussen led the Green Wave offense with a home run and four RBIs. Matthias Haas tallied a pair of hits along with an RBI and a walk. Tanner Chun totaled two hits and walk. Hugh Pinkney knocked in a pair of runs. Jackson Linn hit his first home run of the season and scored twice. Michael Lombardi had a hit, a walk and three runs scored. Theo Bryant IV and Julius Ejike-Charles both scored runs as pinch runners
Nicholls started the scoring with a run on the single from Jaden Collura in the opening inning.
Tulane tied the score up at one in the bottom of the frame on an RBI ground out by Gavin Schulz.
The Green Wave exploded for four runs in the second inning on Rasmussen's grand slam to take the 5-1 lead.
Nicholls got a run closer in the fifth, 5-2, on another Collura single.
Linn made quick work of the first pitch of the sixth inning with his first home run of the season to increase Tulane's lead to 6-2.
Nicholls jumped right back into the game in the top of the seventh on a three-run from Chase Jans to close to within a run, 6-5.
The Green Wave answered with three insurance runs in the eighth inning on a two-run single from Pinkney and a run scoring double from Haas to make the final score 9-5.
Next, Tulane welcomes in Jackson State (11-3) for a 6:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 12, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
