Wave Extinguishes Blazers 85-68
Mar 9, 2025 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – A career-day by freshman Kam Williams fueled Tulane men's basketball (18-13, 12-6) to an 85-68 victory over UAB (20-11, 13-5) in the regular season finale on Sunday inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Williams tallied a career-high 24 points and hit a career-best six three-pointers as the Green Wave closed the regular season with its 12th game of the season scoring at least 80 points.
With the win, Tulane finished the regular season with a 14-3 record at home including an 8-1 mark in conference play. The victory also secured the four seed for the Wave in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Championship in Fort Worth, Texas, this week.
All five starters finished with double figures in scoring for the Green Wave led by the 24-point performance by Williams. The freshman connected on 9-of-12 shots from the field including 6-of-8 from downtown while also adding two blocks and two steals.
Asher Woods followed with his second-straight game with at least 20 points as he finished with exactly 20 on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor with three made threes. Meanwhile, Kaleb Banks tallied 13 points to go with five rebounds and three blocks.
Rowan Brumbaugh reached double digits for the 27th consecutive game as he recorded the second double-double of his career with 11 points and 11 assists. Gregg Glenn III rounded out the top performers for Tulane finishing with 10 points, seven boards, four assists, and two blocks.
As a team, the Wave shot 54.0 percent from the floor and 48.1 percent from beyond the arc knocking down 13 three-pointers. Tulane also finished with 22 assists marking the team's seventh game this season with at least 20 assists. Defensively, the Green Wave recorded eight blocks and seven steals marking the fourth time this season Tulane has had at least seven blocks and seven steals in a game.
Tulane came out firing against the Blazers opening the contest with a 16-3 scoring run over the first six-plus minutes on the floor. UAB responded to slowly climb back into the game eventually taking its first lead at 31-29 with 3:50 to play in the first half.
After Woods tied the game back up at 31-31 with a layup, Williams put the Wave back in front momentarily with his second three of the day. The Blazers answered with the next four points, but Williams knocked down another triple to put Tulane down 37-38 at the break.
The Green Wave and the Blazers went back-and-forth over the opening few minutes of the second half until Tulane mounted a 15-3 run to take control with 67-53 advantage with 8:07 to play. UAB would cut the Wave lead down to 10 with 5:24 on the clock but would not get any closer than that the remainder of the game.
Tulane eventually extended its lead to as many as 22 points with just over a minute to play before ultimately closing out the victory 85-68 over the Blazers.
Up next, the Tulane will enter the 2025 AAC Championship in Fort Worth, Texas, as the No. 4 seed. The Green Wave will face either five-seed Florida Atlantic, 12-seed Rice, or 13-seed Charlotte in the quarterfinals of the tournament at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 14, at Dickies Arena.
