
Baseball Holds On for 8-7 Victory Over UAB on Sunday

Michael Lombardi (3-0) started for Tulane and went the first three innings surrendering three runs with five strikeouts to earn the victory in a pitch limit outing. Blaise Wilcenski pitched the middle three innings, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout. Julius Ejike-Charles was called upon with a runner on base in the seventh inning and ended up throwing a scoreless innings. Jacob Moore was the next arm out of the bullpen and threw 0.2 with two strikeouts plus a walk, a hit allowed, and two runs given up before exiting for Tayler Montiel. Montiel walked a pair of men and allowed a run with a strikeout in his 1.1 innings to earn his first save of the season.
Tanner Chun led the offense for Tulane with three hits, a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Theo Bryant IV totaled two hits, a home run and three RBIs. Gavin Schulz picked up a pair of hits plus drove in and scored a run. Matthias Haas had a hit and an RBI. Jason Wachs scored two runs plus he had a hit and a walk. Connor Rasmussen had a hit, a walk and a run scored.
The loss went to UAB's Isaac Warrick (2-1). Warrick allowed two runs in 2.1 innings as the first reliever out of the bullpen for the Blazers.
UAB scored first with three in the opening inning on the two-run single from Camden Hayslip and an RBI ground out from JP Head.
Tulane answered with three in the bottom of the frame on the RBI ground out from Haas and the two-run double from Chun.
The Green Wave took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second on a triple down the left field line from Schulz.
Tulane added another run to the advantage in the third inning, 5-3, on a Bryant double to score Wachs.
The Blazers cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth, 5-4, on Logan Braunschweig's RBI double.
Bryant made it three home runs conference play with his two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth to put the score at 7-4.
Chun went yard in the seventh inning with his sixth home run of the season to increase the Tulane lead to 8-4.
The Blazers crept three runs closer in the eighth on the bases loaded walk from Gavin Lewis Jr. and the two-run single from Tyler Harrington setting up a tense ninth inning.
In the ninth, Montiel was steady in retiring UAB in order on a strikeout, a line out and fly out to earn his first save of the season.
Next, Tulane welcomes UNO for the second game of the Pelican Cup on Tuesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m.
