TULANE GAME NOTES
New Orleans - The Tulane baseball team (23-14, 7-5 AAC) steps out of conference play and hosts UNO (19-15) in the second game of the Pelican Cup on Tuesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The matchup will be streamed on ESPN+ with Ken Berthelot (pxp) and Joey Brockhoff (color) on the call. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Promotions
The game is Big Easy Night where a free beverage bat will be given out to the first 250 fans. It is also a Double Play Tuesday (2-for-1) as well as a $3 hot dog night. Â
Pitching Matchups
Tulane will start John-Paul Sauer in what will be a bullpen day. Sauer is making his second start of the campaign. He is 1-0 and has struck out 16 in 12.2 innings of work. He only has surrendered two extra base hits and opponents are batting .275 against him.
UNO's starter is expected to be left-handed pitcher Hayden O'Dell. O'Dell is making his sixth start of the season. He has thrown 14.2 innings with 14 walks and nine strikeouts on the campaign. He is also making his second start of the year against Tulane as he started the game played between the schools on March 25.

UNO (19-15) have won four straight after sweeping UNC Asheville over the weekend by a combined score of 23-7 in the three games. Bryce Calloway leads the team in most categories as he is hitting .415 with 42 runs, 54 hits, 11 home runs, 45 RBIs, 97 total bases, is slugging .746 and has an on-base percentage of .500. Calloway ranks second in the Southland Conference in runs batted in and is placed third in home runs. He also works as the team's closer with eight saves in 11 outings. Bryce Loriga hits .369 with 48 hits, 14 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs. The team batting average for UNO is .312 to place third in the Southland. The team has also hit 47 home runs (second in the SLC). The pitching staff has been led by starter Grant Edwards. Edwards has struck out 64 in 49 innings pitched. Swayer Toney has been the top relief arm with a 2.30 ERA along with 14 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched.
In 2024, UNO had a record of 31-26 and 14-10 in the Southland Conference. The program is under new leadership this season, as Dax Norris was named the head coach of the program in December.
Pelican Cup
The Pelican Cup was brought back in 2018. After a two-year hiatus in 2020 and 2021, it returned again in 2022. The Green Wave are the current holders of the cup after going 2-1 last season. The Privateers have captured the cup three times (2018, 2019 and 2023) while Tulane has been the winner of the cup twice (2022 and 2024).
Series History
This will be the 161st all-time meeting between the crosstown rivals on the diamond in a series that started in 1971. Tulane leads the all-time series 87-73. The Green Wave went 2-1 against the Privateers last season to earn the Pelican Cup title. Tulane fell to the Privateers by a 7-6 score on March 25 across town.
Against the Southland Conference
The home game against UNO is the eighth of 10 games against a Southland Conference opponent this season for Tulane. The program defeated Southeastern Louisiana 5-3 on Feb. 19 in Hammond, Nicholls 13-3 on Feb. 25 in Thibodeaux, Nicholls again by a 9-5 score on March 11 at home in New Orleans, lost to Lamar 14-4 on March 18 in New Orleans, fell to UNO 7-6 on March 25, beat Northwestern State by an 8-4 score on April 2 and lost 7-3 to Southeastern Louisiana at home on April 8. The school's all-time mark is 307-165 against current schools in the SLC.

Michael Lombardi (3-0) started for Tulane and went the first three innings surrendering three runs with five strikeouts to earn the victory in a pitch-limit outing. Blaise Wilcenski pitched the middle three innings, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout. Julius Ejike-Charles was called upon with a runner on base in the seventh inning and ended up throwing a scoreless innings. Jacob Moore was the next arm out of the bullpen and threw 0.2 with two strikeouts plus a walk, a hit allowed, and two runs given up before exiting for Tayler Montiel.
