Memphis, TN – The Tulane baseball team (30-20, 13-10 AAC) followed a similar formula as the previous win against Memphis (20-30, 7-16 AAC) with timely hitting and steady pitching leading the way to earn a thrilling 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon, May 10, at FedEx Park.

Trey Cehajic (5-2) started for Tulane and went five scoreless with seven strikeouts and five hits allowed. His seven strikeouts tied his career best. Carter Benbrook was the first man out of the bullpen and he quickly escaped a no out bases loaded jam with a lineout double play and a strikeout to end the sixth. He ended up going two scoreless frames with two strikeouts. Tayler Montiel threw a scoreless eighth inning. Michael Lombardi pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to earn his 11th save of the year.

Jason Wachs again led the offense with three hits including a huge bunt single to drive in an insurance run in the ninth. Theo Bryant IV hit his fifth home run of the season to both drive in a run and score a tally. He also drew a walk. Connor Rasmussen had a pair of hits and walks plus an RBI. Matthias Haas totaled a pair of hits. Hugh Pinkney totaled a hit and a run scored. Gavin Schulz had a hit and a walk.

Tulane started the scoring in the fourth on a solo home run from Bryant. That score would hold all the way until the ninth inning.

The Green Wave added a much needed second run on a Wachs' bunt squeeze bunt single in the ninth to score Pinkney. Rasmussen made it a two-run frame as bases loaded walk to make the final score 3-0 after Lombardi's save in the bottom of the frame.

Next, Tulane plays the series finale against Memphis on Sunday, May 11, starting at 1:05 p.m.

The win improves Tulane to 76-50 all-time against the Tigers…The Green Wave upped their record to 4-2 in three-run games this season and 8-7 on Saturdays overall…The Tulane pitching staff struck out 11 in the game for their 25th game with 10+ strikeouts this season (10 more than all of last season)…The shutout was the team's second of the season and the first since blanking Loyola Marymount by a 10-0 score (2/22)…Jason Wachs extended his on-base streak to a career-high 18 games with three hits…He also now has hit in 15 straight games which is both a career-high and the high by any Tulane player this season…This was his fourth three hit performance of the season and second in as many games…In the 18 games in his on-base streak he is hitting .448 with 19 runs, 26 hits, nine doubles, 14 walks and an on-base percentage of .547…The save by Michael Lombardi was his conference leading 11th of the season…It was the 16th save of his career and second in as many days …He is now four saves from reaching Todd Ardoin (1995-96) for sixth… His 11 saves this season places him tied for eighth all-time at Tulane in a single season along with Christian Colletti (2017) and Brandon Belanger (2000)…He is only one save from moving into a tie for fifth place in a single season…Trey Cehajic's five wins tie him for the team lead this season along with Blaise Wilcenski...His seven strikeouts tied his career high set against Loyola Marymound (2/22).
