Pitching Matchup
Tulane is slated to start lefty Luc Fladda in the opener on Friday evening against the Tigers. Fladda has been the team's series opening starter in each of the first 12 weekends of the season. He is 3-5 on the campaign with 55 strikeouts in 61.2 innings worked and only nine walks. He had worked at least seven innings in four starts this year (vs. Pepperdine – 2/28, vs. Xavier – 3/14, vs. UAB – 4/11 and vs. ECU – 4/25). The 6-1 lefthander went 5-3 last year in his first season as a member of the Green Wave, sporting an earned run average of 4.77 with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 83 innings.
On Saturday, in the second game of the series, Tulane starts 6-8 righty Trey Cehajic. Cehajic is 4-2 on the year with a 5.24 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched. He worked as the team's Sunday starter in each of the first two weekends but has been the regular second game weekend hurler since then. His best starting performance of the season came against North Dakota State as he worked a career-high six innings against the Bison in limiting them to two runs. Cehajic hails from Shreveport, Louisiana and is in his second year with the program. As a junior he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his 19 appearances. He placed second on the team with four saves while totaling 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings thrown and a 0-2 record.
The Sunday starter for Tulane is to be determined at this point depending on the results and bullpen usage in the two earlier games of the series.
Memphis is starting Seth Garner on Friday. Garner is 3-6 on the season with a 4.11 ERA. This will be his 13th start of the season. He leads the club with his 65.2 innings worked. Garner has also recorded 39 strikeouts and only walked 17. David Chase will be the starting pitcher on Saturday for the Tigers. Chase, a lefty, is 1-6 on the year with 56 strikeouts in 48.1 innings worked. Memphis, just like Tulane, will determine the team's Sunday starter following Saturday's game.
