
Baseball Comes Back for 3-2 Victory Over Memphis

Memphis, TN – The Tulane baseball team (29-20, 12-10 AAC) used some timely late hitting and a steady pitching performance to earn a 3-2 comeback victory over Memphis (20-29, 7-15 AAC) on Friday night, May 9, at FedEx Park.
Luc Fladda started for Tulane (4-5) and went the first six innings with two runs allowed and five strikeouts. He was followed by scoreless innings from relievers Will Clements and Tayler Montiel. Clements retired the side in order in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts. Montiel pitched around a two-out hit by pitch to put up a scoreless frame in the eighth. Michael Lombardi was electric in the ninth as he retired the side with three strikeouts on only 10 pitches to earn his 10th save of the campaign.
Jason Wachs led the hitting attack with three hits. Kaikea Harrison had a pair of hits plus a run scored and an RBI. Connor Rasmussen had a hit and drove in a run. Gavin Schulz had a hit, a run scored and drove in the winning run. Hugh Pinkney had a hit. Tanner Chun drew a walk. Theo Bryant IV walked twice.
The loss went to Seth Garner (3-7). Garner allowed three runs on five hits in 6.2 innings worked with three walks and three strikeouts.
Tulane scored first with a run in the opening inning on a Rasmussen double to plate Schulz.
The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the frame, 1-1, on Shane Cox's home run.
Memphis took the lead, 2-1, in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Creek Robertson. The lead would hold until the seventh.
Tulane tied the game up and then took the lead with two runs in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Harrison and an infield RBI single by Schulz.
Next, Tulane plays the second game of the series against Memphis on Saturday, May 10, at 2:05 p.m.

His 10 saves this season places him tied for 10th all-time at Tulane in a single season along with Daniel Latham (2007) and Brian Gibbs (1994).
