CLEARWATER, FLA - The Tulane baseball team (30-24) starts the team's quest for a three-peat taking on Florida Atlantic (36-19) in the first game of the day on Tuesday, May 20, at 8 a.m. CT/9 a.m. ET at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida in the 2025 AAC Baseball Championship

The game will be streamed on ESPN+. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Pitching Matchup
Tulane is slated to start Michael Lombardi in the opener against the Owls. Lombardi is 3-0 on the season with a 1.45 ERA plus 56 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched. He leads the conference in saves with 11 and has limited opponents to a .151 batting average against. This will be his fifth start of the season.
Florida Atlantic is slated to start Trey Beard. Beard is 7-0 on the year with a 2.93 ERA plus 113 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. He has only surrendered 54 hits on the campaign and opponents are batting .190 against him.
Scouting Florida Atlantic
Florida Atlantic won four of the team's last six game to close out the regular season. The program ended the campaign with a 15-12 in the AAC to earn the fourth seed in the conference tournament. Marshall Lipsey has led the offensive charge with his .322 batting average 47 runs, 59 hits, 12 home runs, 43 RBIs, 107 total bases, 42 walks and 17 stolen bases. Brando Leroux is also hitting .322 with 30 runs, 56 hits, 10 doubles, four home runs, 30 RBIs and 78 total bases. John Schroeder leads the club with his 15 home runs and 49 RBIs. The team's top reliever is MJ Bollinger. Bollinger is 2-3 on the year with a 1.76 ERA plus 11 saves.
Series History
Tulane leads the all-time series with Florida Atlantic 5-3. All eight games of the series have come in the last two years. Tulane won two out of three against the Owls on the road in Boca Raton, Fla. from April 19-21, 2024 and then defeated FAU by scores of 14-2 and 11-1 in the 2024 AAC Baseball Tournament. Florida Atlantic won two of three over Tulane this season. After dropping the first two games by scores of 16-12 and 10-8, Tulane won the final game of the series by a 6-4 margin.
AAC Tournament Notables
Tulane has won the AAC Tournament title in each of the last two years and ride a six-game winning streak into the opening game of 2025. Last season Tulane won an 11-10 thriller over Wichita State on Jackson Linn's walk-off home run. Linn had an outstanding tournament with four home runs and was named the Most Outstanding Player. Other All-Tournament selections in 2024 for Tulane were outfielder Teo Banks, first baseman Brady Marget, pitcher Billy Price, third baseman Gavin Schulz and catcher Colin Tuft. Tulane has won at least one game in eight of nine all-time appearances in the AAC Tournament. This is the program's 43rd all-time appearance in a post-season conference tournament (10 in AAC, 17 CUSA and 16 Metro). Tulane is 91-61 all-time in conference tournament games including a mark of 16-15 in the AAC

The Tulane baseball team (30-24, 13-14 AAC) closed out the 2025 regular season with a 20-16 loss to visiting Charlotte (35-20, 18-9 AAC) on Saturday afternoon, May 17, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Senior Day.
J.D. Rodriguez started for the Green Wave and allowed two runs in the opening frame on three hits. Wes Burton was up next out of the bullpen. He allowed a pair of runs in his frame with a strikeout. Garrett Payne surrendered two runs (one earned) in his inning as the team's third pitcher on three hits. Grayson Smith (0-1), as the fourth pitcher, allowed four hits and five runs in 0.1 of an inning. Michael Devenney entered next and allowed three runs in 1.2 innings worked on five hits. Henry Shuffler was the next man up. He threw 1.2 innings with one hit allowed and three runs. Julius Ejike-Charles allowed two runs in 0.2 innings as the seventh pitcher. Gavin Smith went the last 1.2 innings with one run, one hit, one walk and one strikeout.
Jason Wachs led the attack with three hits and four RBIs. Five other Tulane players had multi-hit performances in the contest. Connor Rasmussen totaled a pair of hits and RBIs plus a run scored. Theo Bryant IV had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Andrew McKenna recorded two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Tracy Mitchem, in his first start of the season, had a pair of hits plus a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Brock Slaton totaled three RBIs and run scored. Jackson Linn picked up a pair of hits and a run scored. Gavin Schulz had a hit and two runs scored. Nate Johnson recorded a hit, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. James Agabedis III had a hit, a run scored, a walk and an RBI.
Notables from the Charlotte Series
The three losses dropped Tulane to 34-27 all-time against Charlotte. This was just the second home weekend series that Tulane lost this season (vs. FAU). Tulane has now dropped four straight games. Jason Wachs extended his on-base streak to a career high 22 games with a walk and three hits in the third game (5/17). He also now has hit in 19 straight games which is both a career high and the high for any Tulane player this season. In his on-base streak, Wachs is hitting .432 with 21 runs, 32 hits, 10 doubles, a triple, eight RBIs, 16 walks and an on-base percentage of .532…This was his fifth three-hit game of the season. Connor Rasmussen's two hits in the final game of the series (5/17) was his leading 21st multi-hit performance on the year. The third game (5/17) was only the third game that Kaikea Harrison did not start at shortstop this season. The final game (5/17) was Senior Day for Gavin Schulz, Theo Bryant IV, Andrew McKenna, Tracy Mitchem, Brock Slaton, Jackson Linn, Wes Burton, Garrett Payne, Henry Shuffler, Carter Benbrook, Dominic Pieto, Logan Hurd, Tayler Montiel and Gavin Smith. The first game (5/15) was only the second time that Tulane has been shutout and the first time since the road series against USF (3/28). The Green Wave after the opening game loss (5/15) are now 0-2 on Thursdays this year. The Tulane pitching staff recorded 12 strikeouts in the series opener (5/15). It was the program's 26th game with double digit strikeouts (12 more than all of last. The relief appearance for Trey Cehajic on Thursday (5/15) was his first of the season after 12 starts.
Five Named All-Conference Selections
The American Athletic Conference announced its 2025 all-league teams and individual awards Monday and, in it, recognized five Tulane student-athletes.
Relief pitcher Michael Lombardi and second baseman Connor Rasmussen were named to the first team. Designated hitter Gavin Schulz was a second team selection. The program saw outfielders Jason Wachs and Tanner Chun earn a spot on the all-freshman team. Wachs was a unanimous selection.
The awards were voted on by the league's 10 head coaches. The five selections are tied with last year for the most for the program since 2016 (seven). This was the second straight year that both Lombardi (second team in 2024) and Schulz (first team in 2024) were chosen for post-season awards for the Green Wave.
