Green Wave Falls to East Carolina
Feb 10, 2026 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Freshman Mecailin Marshall poured in 34 points Tuesday night at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse, but it was not enough as Tulane fell to East Carolina 65-61. With the result, the Green Wave moves to 8-15 (3-8 American) as the Pirates improve to 18-7 (10-2 American).
Â
East Carolina shot better on the night, 41.6 percent to 36.4 percent. The Wave claimed the glass, 41-31, and held a 15-10 offensive rebounding advantage. Turnovers again proved pivotal as Tulane committed 10 more tonight, 22-12. This led to 21 points of turnovers for the Pirates compared to the five for the Wave.
Â
Freshman Mecailin Marshall led all scorers on the night with a career-high 34 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Her 34 points are the most by a Wave freshman since at least 1999. Marshall's tally is the most in a game by a freshman in the American Conference this season and the sixth most in a game by any freshman in the nation. Marshall owned over half of Tulane's total field goals, depositing 11 with the team recording 20. She owned four of the team's seven three-pointers.
Â
With Marshall notching 34 of the Wave's 61 points, the remaining 27 were dispersed between six players with Amira Mabry's seven the next highest total. Dyllan Hanna had 12 rebounds to top the team as she fell just short of her career high (13). Kendall Sneed dished nine assists, tying her own mark against Boise State for the most by a Tulane player this season. Hanna and Kanija Daniel tied for the team lead in blocking with two apiece, and Marshall's two steals were most on the team.
Â
The game opened with Kendall Sneed claiming the initial lead for Tulane. After ECU tied the game, Dyllan Hanna went inside to reclaim the edge. The Pirates scored five straight to take their first lead, but CC Mays notched a trey to retie the game. After ECU retook the lead, Mecailin Marshall swished a three for another Tulane lead. East Carolina pulled in front later in the quarter at 16-13, but Marshall's layup kept things close. The Pirates recorded a three, but Sneed tallied two foul shots late to trim the score to 19-17 after a quarter.
Â
Both defenses clamped down to begin the second frame, as the first bucket didn't come until the 7:50 mark by East Carolina. Amira Mabry put home Tulane's first of the quarter with 7:16 on the clock. A Marshall and-one play pushed the Wave back in front in the middle goings of the quarter, and Jayda Brown followed up with a three. After a Pirate make, Marshall buried a trey of her own to put Tulane up 28-23. However, the Pirates pushed back and tied the game at 28-all with a three. The three parade continued when Mays hit from distance. The teams traded scores from there to close the half as East Carolina's jumper in the final minute shaved the Tulane lead to 33-32 at the break.
Â
The Pirates hit a three to open the second half, taking the lead 35-33. Overall, the Pirates had a 7-1 run over the first four minutes of the third quarter, but Marshall kept Tulane within striking distance. Shiloh Kimpson's score brought Tulane back within a point, and a six-point Tulane run was capped by a Marshall layup for a 40-39 lead. However, the Pirates gathered two free throws to pull back in front before adding a layup. Marshall again scored, but East Carolina parried with a three. Marshall would stay hot, tying the game at 46-46 with 16 seconds to go in the third quarter, but a layup in the closing seconds pushed the Pirates ahead 48-46 entering the final frame.
Â
That late score sparked East Carolina, who opened the fourth with the first nine points for an overall 11-point swing. Tulane broke through with 5:22 on the clock thanks to a Mabry three-point play to bring the margin to 57-49. Marshall continued her career night with a three at the 3:52 mark to bring the Wave within 58-52. The Pirates collected a free throw and a layup to pull back in front 61-52 with 2:21 on the clock. Needing a late push, Marshall again delivered. With 1:25 to go, she put home two foul shots. ECU scored the next four points, but as the game reached the final 31 seconds, Marshall was fouled while shooting. A subsequent technical enabled the freshman to put home four free shots, and with Tulane's ensuing possession, she scored a three to pull the Wave within 65-61 with 14 seconds to go. The late surge would come just too late as the final seconds ticked away, and despite Tulane's valiant efforts East Carolina held on to win 65-61.

The Wave hits the road this weekend to face North Texas on Saturday, February 14. Tip-off in Denton, Texas, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with the game streaming on ESPN+.
