TULANE GAME NOTES
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (5-2) plays a pair of mid-weeks to start a five-game week in the squad's third week of action. The program starts the week heading across town to take on UNO (2-5) on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Maestri Field at 6:30 p.m. The team then travels to Mobile, Alabama to take on South Alabama (5-2) at Stanky Field on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m.
Media
The contests against UNO and South Alabama will be shown on ESPN+. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on a stream-only broadcast on the Varsity Network on Tuesday. Paul Boron will fill in on the radio on Wednesday on WRBH 88.3/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio/stream for each game is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Pitching Matchups
Tulane is schedule to throw redshirt junior righty Jude Abbadessa against the Privateers on Tuesday. Abbadessa is making his first start in a Tulane uniform and fourth appearance of his season already against UNO. He has yet to give up a run or a hit in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts. Abbadessa is a transfer from UConn where in 2025 he appeared in 17 games that covered 16.1 innings including four starts.
UNO is countering with left-handed pitcher Bryson Goff. Goff is 0-1 on the year in two appearances and one start. He has thrown a total of one inning and surrendered six runs and two walks.
Neither Tulane or South Alabama have announced the expected starting pitcher on Wednesday.
Scouting UNO
UNO is off to a 2-5 start this season after dropping two of three games at the hosted Maestri Classic over the weekend.
The Privateers have been led the plate by Dylan Biddick. Biddick has 14 hits, two home runs and eight RBIs in the first seven games of the season.
Miles Curley also has knocked in eight runs this season.
Kruise Newman leads the team with his three home runs.
William Andrade has been the team's top pitcher with 10 strikeouts in 7.2 innings thrown.
The UNO pitching staff has limited opponents to a .259 batting average and 14 extra base hits but have also walked 51 and hit 12 batters in 60.0 innings worked.
Last year, UNO went 28-26 with a mark of 12-17 in the Southland Conference. The Privateers won three games in the Southland Conference Tournament before being eliminated.
The program is under new leadership as Andrew Gipson is in his first year with the program. Overall, this is his third year as collegiate head coach after working at Belhaven for the last two seasons. He is 61-37 in his head coaching career.
Pelican Cup
The Pelican Cup was brought back in 2018. After a two-year hiatus in 2020 and 2021, it returned again in 2022. The Privateers are the current holders of the cup after going 2-0 last season against Tulane.
The Privateers have captured the cup four times (2018, 2019, 2023, and 2025) while Tulane has been the winner of the cup twice (2022 and 2024).
Series History
This will be the 162nd all-time meeting between the crosstown rivals on the diamond in a series that started in 1971. Tulane leads the all-time series 87-74. The Green Wave dropped both games to the Privateers last season.
Against the Southland Conference
The road game against UNO is the first of seven games against a Southland Conference opponent this season for Tulane. The program went 5-4 against Southland Conference (SLC) opponents last season. The school's all-time mark is 308-166 against current schools in the SLC.
Scouting South Alabama
South Alabama is off to a 5-2 start this season after taking two of three in the road series against College of Charleston over the weekend.
The Jaguars have a road game against Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday before returning home to host Tulane.

Series History
South Alabama leads the all-time series with Tulane by a 27-23 count since the first game of the series in 1968. The last time that the Green Wave and Jaguars locked up was in 2023 with South Alabama winning 11-7 in New Orleans.
Against the Sun Belt Conference
The road game at South Alabama will be the first of three for the program against a Sun Belt opponent this season as the team will also face off with Southern Miss in a home and home later in the year.
The first meeting against a current Sun Belt Conference opponent came in 1946 with Tulane falling 7-1 to Louisiana.

Coming In On A Streak
Jason Wachs, despite seeing his hitting streak snapped at 23 games following the opening game of the season against LMU, has still now reached base safely in 33 consecutive games dating back to the end of last season.
Who's Hot in the Last Five Games
Tanner Chun has started to pick up his play both at the plate and on the bases. Chun is hitting .545 with eight runs, six hits, three doubles, four RBIs, six walks, and six stolen bases.
Jason Wachs is hitting .381 with eight hits, five runs, two doubles, a home run, eight RBIs, and 13 total bases.
Tye Wood sports a .353 batting average six hits, six runs, four walks and five RBIs.
Sam Larson has appeared in two games on the mound in relief with a 1-0 record, 12 strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched.

Tanner Chun and Jack Frankel were both named to the American Conference's Weekly Honor Roll following the second week of the season (2/23/26).
Chun, a sophomore outfielder from Honolulu, Hawaii, sparked the Tulane offense as he hit .556 with six runs scored, two doubles, two extra base hits, a slugging percentage of .778, six stolen bases, and an on-base percentage of .750. He also totaled five hits, four RBIs and seven total bases while reaching base safely in all four games.
Frankel, a sophomore pitcher from Plano, Tex., allowed just one run on seven hits in a complete game seven inning victory over Harvard. His seven innings thrown was the team's first complete game since April 25, 2025. His seven innings on the mound was the most for a Tulane pitcher since Michael Lombardi also went seven frames against Florida Atlantic in the American Baseball Conference Tournament (5/20/25). Frankel also struck out three without walking a man.
This is the first weekly conference recognition for both Chun and Frankel during their careers at Tulane and for the program this year. Overall, the program has been recognized by the conference 12 times the last two seasons.
Notables From Harvard Series
The three-game sweep improved Tulane to 3-1 all-time against Harvard.
The series was the first time the teams have met on the diamond since 1998 in the NCAA South II Regional in Baton Rouge.
Kaikea Harrison has now recorded a hit in every game this season
The pitching staff's 14 strikeouts on Friday, Feb. 20, was the fourth time this season that the staff has reached double figures in strikeouts.
The three-game sweep of the Crimson was the first for the program since beating Rice in all three games of that series last season (4/4-5/25).

In a vote of the league's coaches, Tulane was picked for fourth and had two players selected as American Preseason All-Conference. The Green Wave were chosen for fourth overall with 57 points. The team also saw outfielder Jason Wachs and designated hitter Matthias Haas chosen as Preseason American All-Conference.

The Green Wave will host 27 games at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, along with one neutral-site game in Mississippi and 28 road contests in 2026. Inside the Numbers of the Returners
The team's 14 returning players accounted for 52.7 percent of the runs (204/387), 53 percent of the hits (287/541), 55 percent of the doubles (72/131), 58 percent of the triples (7/12), 45 percent of the home runs (23/51), 49 percent of the RBIs (178/360), 52 percent of the total bases (442/849) and 55 percent of the walks (159/287). Tulane added 23 new players to the roster this year. The 2025 Season Quick Hitters
Tulane went 33-25 last season and had five American All-Conference selections on the year in Michael Lombardi (P – 1st), Connor Rasmussen (2B – 1st), Gavin Schulz (DH – 2nd), Jason Wachs (All-Freshman) and Tanner Chun (All-Freshman). The five selections are tied with the 2024 team for the most for the program since 2016 (seven).
The team also had three chosen for the league's All-Tournament Team in Schulz, Tayler Montiel and Theo Bryant IV plus a pair on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-State Team in Lombardi and Rasmussen.
Additionally, the program had three players selected in the 2025 MLB Draft in Lombardi (Kansas City Royals – 2nd round), Montiel (Arizona Diamondbacks – 12th round), and Rasmussen (Kansas City Royals – 15th round).
2025 Fun Stat Facts
Jason Wachs was ninth in the conference in batting average (.335) and on-base percentage (.457). Wachs and Tanner Chun were tied for 10th in the league in triples (2). Matthias Haas ranked second in the conference in doubles (21) and 26th in batting average (.303). Kaikea Harrison was tied for the conference lead in sacrifice bunts (8) and 38th in batting average (.283). Trey Cehajic and Blaise Wilcenski were tied for 10th in the league in wins (5).

The Green Wave return 14 players from the 2025 squad that a made a run to the 2025 American Championship Game for the third straight season this season in James Agabedis (infielder), Kaikea Harrison (infielder), Matthias Haas (infielder/outfielder), Tanner Chun (outfielder), Julius Ejike-Charles (left-handed pitcher/outfielder), Jason Wachs (outfielder), Hugh Pinkney (catcher), J.D. Rodriguez (right-handed pitcher), Nate Johnson (infielder), Will Clements (right-handed pitcher), Michael Devenney (right-handed pitcher), Jacob Moore (right-handed pitcher), Blaise Wilcenski (right handed pitcher), and Trey Cehajic (right-handed pitcher)
Inside the Numbers of the Returners
The team's 14 returning players accounted for 52.7 percent of the runs (204/387), 53 percent of the hits (287/541), 55 percent of the doubles (72/131), 58 percent of the triples (7/12), 45 percent of the home runs (23/51), 49 percent of the RBIs (178/360), 52 percent of the total bases (442/849) and 55 percent of the walks (159/287). On the mound, the club returns 48.4 percent of the wins (16/33), 53 percent of the game started (31/58), 43 percent of the innings (212/532) and 34 percent of the strikeouts (308/547).
Newcomers
Tulane added 23 new players to the roster this year. The list includes seven graduate students (Tye Wood, Brett Rowell, Trent Liolios, Jack Johnson, Jake Toporek, Tom Vincent and Aidan Rath), a senior (Nolan Nawrocki), seven juniors (Jude Abbadessa, Sam Larson, Caden Tarango, Jack Brafa, Beau Sampson, Owen Geiss, and Max Maxinter), four sophomores (AJ Groeneveld, Jack Frankel, Johnny Elliott, and LuisPablo Navarro) and four true freshmen (Bryson Ayala, Cole Berge, Evan Burg and Matthew Major).
The 2025 Season Quick Hitters
Tulane went 33-25 last season and had five American All-Conference selections on the year in Michael Lombardi (P – 1st), Connor Rasmussen (2B – 1st), Gavin Schulz (DH – 2nd), Jason Wachs (All-Freshman) and Tanner Chun (All-Freshman). The five selections are tied with the 2024 team for the most for the program since 2016 (seven).
The team also had three chosen for the league's All-Tournament Team in Schulz, Tayler Montiel and Theo Bryant IV plus a pair on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-State Team in Lombardi and Rasmussen.
Additionally, the program had three players selected in the 2025 MLB Draft in Lombardi (Kansas City Royals – 2nd round), Montiel (Arizona Diamondbacks – 12th round), and Rasmussen (Kansas City Royals – 15th round).
2025 Fun Stat Facts
Jason Wachs was ninth in the conference in batting average (.335) and on-base percentage (.457). Wachs and Tanner Chun were tied for 10th in the league in triples (2). Matthias Haas ranked second in the conference in doubles (21) and 26th in batting average (.303). Kaikea Harrison was tied for the conference lead in sacrifice bunts (8) and 38th in batting average (.283). Trey Cehajic and Blaise Wilcenski were tied for 10th in the league in wins (5).
