Tulane Falls to Charlotte at Home
Feb 4, 2026 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Despite a 17-point fourth-quarter effort, the Tulane women's basketball team fell just short Wednesday night to Charlotte, 47-44, in a defensive slugfest at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave moves to 8-13 (3-6 American) as the 49ers improve to 10-13 (4-6 American).
Â
Tulane outshot Charlotte on the night, posting a 34.6 percent clip to the 31.3 percent mark of the 49ers. The Wave put home one more three-pointer, 4-3. The Niners claimed the glass, 43-39, including a 22-13 advantage on the offensive end. In a three-point game, Charlotte delivered three more second chance points (14-11). Turnovers proved pivotal as Tulane committed 21 while forcing 14 with the Niners holding a 17-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
Â
Dyllan Hanna and Jayda Brown tied for the team lead with 14 points each as the only two Wave players in double figures. Brown's tally is a new career high on 6-of-9 shooting, including a pair of threes. Hanna was perfect from the floor at 6-of-6, and she knocked down her only two foul shots. With six boards, she tied with Amira Mabry for the team lead. Shiloh Kimpson dished a team-high four helpers. Defensively, Hanna topped the team with four blocks, and CC Mays and Kendall Sneed tied for the team lead with two swipers apiece.
Â
The Wave got on the board first with a layup by Dylla Hanna, but Charlotte responded to tie the game, sparking an overall six-point run for the lead. Hanna free throws broke the spell. After five more 49er points, Hanna again scored to own Tulane's first six points. Jordyn Weaver became the next Tulane player in the scoring column with her tip-in in the closing seconds of the quarter to bring Tulane within 11-8.
Â
After three points for Charlotte, Hanna again got to work with a bucket inside. Kanija Daniel scored to trim the margin to two, but a Charlotte tip-in nixed it. Jayda Brown would score to bring Tulane within a point, 18-17, but the 49ers had a response by way of a seven-point run to pull in front 25-17. Brown scored once more in the final 20 seconds of the half to bring the margin to 25-19 at the break.
Â
Hanna continued to thrive inside with a layup to begin the third quarter. The teams began to trade blows throughout the half with neither team able to string along back-to-back scores in the entire frame. Brown put home Tulane's last basket of the quarter with 35 seconds to go, but Charlotte got the last score of the quarter overall with 13 seconds remaining to keep the 49er lead at six points, 33-27.
Â
After trading scores to open the fourth, Charlotte collected back-to-back buckets for a 10-point lead, 39-29. However, CC Mays delivered a three, and Brown followed with one of her own to bring the Wave within 39-35 at the 7:14 mark. Charlotte found a basket, but Brown stayed hot by knocking down another trey as Tulane closed the gap to 41-38 with 4:29 on the clock. However, the 49ers put in a three of their own, but Hanna kept Tulane close with a layup. Defenses clamped down until Charlotte's score with 2:06 to go, and Hanna quickly responded inside. Mecailin Marshall put home a bucket to bring the Wave within 46-44 with 43 seconds remaining, forcing a Charlotte timeout. As time ticked down, Tulane needed to foul, but before Tulane could send Charlotte to the line, an errant 49er pass provided the Wave a chance. However, in the closing seconds an untimely turnover befell Tulane, who could not quite complete the comeback, falling 47-44.
