NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Tulane baseball team returns home on Tuesday to open a five-game stretch at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium with this year's final game of the Pelican Cup series against the New Orleans Privateers at 6:30 p.m.
Fans coming out to the game can pick up a free t-shirt, as well as finding $2 concession items. A live stream of the contest will be available at TulaneGreenWave.com, with Todd Graffagnini providing play-by-play for the broadcast and the radio home of Tulane baseball on WRBH 88.3 FM in New Orleans.
The Green Wave open a key stretch of home games on Tuesday off the back of a 9-8 win over the ECU Pirates in Greenville on Sunday afternoon. After dropping the first two games to the ninth-ranked team in the country according to Baseball America, Tulane weathered a 5-0 start for the competition before scoring nine runs over four innings to take the lead and squash a late ECU comeback bid.
Tulane will look to build on the momentum from the win on Sunday, as the team jumps back into American Athletic Conference weekend action against the UCF Knights beginning Friday.
After a standout week, freshman Hudson Haskin was named to the league's weekly honor roll on Monday as he led the team at the plate with a .563 batting average and nine total hits. Haskin is second on the team in batting average at .388 and in RBI with 39, as his 57 total hits are third on the squad.
Another player that had a solid week was junior infielder Jonathon Artigues, who increased his batting average to .322 on the year as he earned multiple hits in all three games against ECU over the weekend. Since the start of conference play, the Mississippi native has earned two or more hits nine times.
Against one of the top pitching rotations in the country, junior Kody Hoese continued to have the play that has him in the hunt for baseball's top amateur award in the Golden Spikes Award, as he remains tied for the lead in the country in home runs with 21, while his .417 batting average is sixth in the nation coming into the new week.
Tulane pitching showed up big at different points throughout the weekend series, as the staff looks to get a complete performance against the Privateers who have combined to score 23 runs through two games of the Pelican Cup.
Since the 15-10 win for New Orleans in the last meeting, the visitors have won only three more games which include a series win over Lamar among their last seven overall. The Privateers are 21-23 overall and 7-14 in the Southland Conference.
