Oct 24, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
CINCINNATI – In the final match of the weekend, the Tulane Green Wave volleyball team went toe-to-toe with the Bearcats of Cincinnati in a three-set match on Sunday afternoon, giving the opposition a fair fight but falling just short in each set.
Â
Tulane fell by counts of 26-24, 26-24 and 25-19.
Â
Tulane (13-9) struggled to produce offensively, hitting .191 as a group with 39 kills. The Bears (12-6) attacked early and often attacking at a .257 clip as a team.
Â
Redshirt senior Lexie Douglas led the Green Wave with 13 kills. Douglas, after a stellar performance on Friday night brought her weekend total to 39 kills. Teammate Michelle Urquhart also posted double-digit kill totals for Tulane with 10.Â
Â
Senior setter Taylor Henigsman did her part with 31 assistants as well as two kills and five digs.
Â
Jillian Dits and Mackenzie Martin chipped in defensively for Tulane with 18 digs collectively.Â
Â
To start the match the Wave would trail by six at the largest defecate in set one. The Wave would claim its first lead of the match off a kill from Henigsman to go up 23-22. The Cincinnati offense overpowered Tulane in the set to finish 26-24.Â
Â
Set two was a clone of the first with four lead changes and nine ties Tulane would drop the set 26-24. The Wave had 12 kills and three aces before the set went final.
Â
The Olive and Blue showed the least amount of offensive prowess in set three.  With only one lead change in favor of the Bearcats, the 12 kills from the Wave weren't enough. This 25-19 set summed the match 3-0 Cincinnati.Â
Â
Tulane will be back in action on Wednesday, on the road in Houston. The Wave will take on the Cougars at 7 pm inside the Fertirtta Center.Â
