
Tulane Baseball Hosts Jackson State in Non-Conference Finale

TULANE HOSTS JACKSON STATE AT GFATS
- The Green Wave baseball team continues its lengthy homestand with its final mid-week non-conference game of the 2021 season against Jackson State.
- The first pitch on Tuesday is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be aired live on ESPN+ and can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM.
- The Green Wave looks to bounce back after dropping the final two games of a three-game series to Grand Canyon over the weekend.
- Graduate transfer and right-handed pitcher Jake McDonald will make his first start of the season. He threw two scoreless innings of relief, allowed no hits, one walk and struck out one in his most recent outing Friday night against GCU.
SERIES HISTORY
- Tulane's matchups with Jackson State will be the 25th all-time, but first in nearly 10 years.
- Tulane owns a 21-3 lead in the all-time series and has won seven consecutive meetings dating back to 1987.
- The Green Wave collected a 9-1 home victory over the Tigers in their last meeting on April 27, 2011.
- Jackson State's last win in the series occurred on April 10, 1987 in Jackson, Miss., while its last victory in New Orleans was March 15, 1983.
AROUND THE HORN WITH THE WAVE
- Tulane enters Tuesday's matchup against Jackson State with a .256 team batting average and an overall team earned run average of 4.15.
- Tulane's crop of first and second-year freshmen have combined for eight of the club's 14 home runs and 48 of the team's 113 RBI this season.
- The Green Wave rank first in the American Athletic Conference in doubles (42), second in triples (8), team ERA (4.15) and WHIP (1.34), third in walks (85), fourth stolen bases (25) and fifth fielding percentage (.968).
- Two Green Wave players own batting averages of .300-or-better including Collin Burns (.355) and Bennett Lee (.351).
- Freshman catcher Bennett Lee has recorded multiple hits four times and has two games with multiple extra-base hits in just 10 starts this season.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Jackson State enters Tuesday's matchup with a 14-6 overall record this spring, including a 9-0 record in conference play following a three-game home sweep against Alabama A&M over the weekend.
- The Tigers own a 7-1 record at home and a 7-5 mark in games played away from their friendly confines.
- In Jackson State's six losses this season, the club was outscored, 61-11, by its opponents. Those opponents include Mercer (three times), Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Grambling State.
- In the Tigers' 14 wins this spring, they are outscoring the opposition, 168-62.
- JSU is led by senior outfielder Chandler Dillard's .430 batting average, while freshman utility Chenar Brown is hitting .357 while holding the team lead in home runs (4) and RBI (28).
RECAPPING THE GRAND CANYON SERIES
- The Tulane University baseball team won game one Friday evening against the Lopes, 7-4, but suffered an 8-7 loss on Saturday and a 6-0 defeat in game three on Sunday.
- In three home games against Grand Canyon University March 26-28, Tulane's bullpen posted a 1.13 ERA after allowing just two earned runs in 16 innings of work. The unit also recorded 19 strikeouts and issued just four walks.
- In Sunday's series finale, Tulane pitching recorded 12 strikeouts and issues no walks to GCU.
- For the weekend, freshman catcher Bennett Lee batted .400, drew two walks and slugged .800 with a home run and three RBI in the three-game series against GCU.
TULANE BASEBALL MOVES TO 18 PERCENT CAPACITY
- Tulane University Athletics announced this week an increase in capacity for Green Wave baseball games inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
- In accordance with state, local and American Athletic Conference guidelines while maintaining six feet between seating pods, capacity for remaining games will increase to 18 percent.
- With this announced increase, Tulane Athletics has a limited number of tickets available to the general public for purchase.

BURNS NOTICE
- Redshirt sophomore Collin Burns currently leads the team in batting (.355), slugging percentage (.559), hits (33), doubles (10) and triples (3).Â
- He leads The American in doubles and triples. His three triples rank in the top 10 nationally.
- Burns opened the season by hitting safely in nine straight games and is currently riding a five-game hitting streak.
- He matched his career high with three hits while leading off against La. Tech on March 21.
- Six of his 12 RBI have come with two outs.
