
The Green Wave Emerges Victorious With a Conference Win at Home

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane volleyball team fought hard and emerged victorious in an intense five-set match over Wichita State on Sunday afternoon at the Avron B. Fogelman Arena inside Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave took the match 25-17, 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-4.
Tulane improved to 7-14 overall and 2-8 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Shockers dipped to 10-10 and 5-4 in the league.
The Green Wave came out strong in the first set, taking the lead with a score of 8-3.Â
The Wave extended its lead even further after a four-point run that brought the score up to 14-6. Three straight kills by the Green Wave caused the Shockers to call a timeout at a score of 21-15. The Shockers were able to come within eight at 25-17, but two straight kills from the Wave sealed the set one victory.Â
The start of the second set was a point-for-point battle until Tulane took the lead after two kills and an error from the Shockers to make the score 8-5. Wichita State was able to tie the score at 17-17, followed by a four-point run that brought the score up to 20-17. The Green Wave got within six but could not regain the lead, dropping the second set 25-19.Â
The Green Wave pulled ahead early in the third set at a score of 9-5. The Shockers then called a timeout later in the set after Tulane gained a seven-point lead at a score of 15-8. The two teams tied the score at 23-23, but Green Wave fell behind by two to end the set at a score of 25-23.
The Green Wave and the Shockers went point for point in the beginning of the fourth set, but The Green Wave took an 11-9 lead after rattling off seven points. The Shockers tied the set up at a score of 12-12. Near the end of the fourth set, the Shockers called a time-out after the Wave regained the lead 24-20. The Shockers came within four but could not stop the Wave from rolling its way into a fifth set by a score of 25-21.
The Green Wave dominated the fifth and final set 15-4, gaining a huge conference win at home. The Green Wave had its 11th-most team kills in program history, with a total of 77 in the match. Libero JILLIAN DITS also had a career-high of 29 digs this match, along with three double-doubles by MACKENZIE MARTIN, AMARACHI OSUJI, KATE VAN HOUTEN.
Tulane is back in action Friday in NOLA when East Carolina (8-14, 3-7) comes calling for a 6:30 p.m. start.Â
