
Volleyball Hits the Road for Two Matches this Weekend

NEW ORLEANS-Â The Tulane University volleyball team is back on the road this weekend as it travels to Kansas and Oklahoma for two inner conference games against Wichita State University and the University of Tulsa. The weekend's upcoming matches will be on Friday, Nov 11, and Sunday, Nov 13.Â

The Green Wave (8-17, 3-11 AAC) will first take on Wichita State University (11-13, 8-5 AAC) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena before rolling its way to Oklahoma to take on the University of Tulsa (11-14, 4-9 AAC) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Reynolds Center. Both matches this weekend will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

The Green Wave fought hard last weekend but ended up dropping its first match in three sets to Huston (15-25, 23-25, 21-25) on Friday and had a similar outcome on Sunday, dropping its second match in four sets to Cincinnati by scores of (12-25, 20-25, 21-25, 18-25).Â

The Olive and Blue showed its talents on the road in Houston, TX. In its first weekend match against the University of Houston (23-2, 14-0 AAC), The Green Wave offense hit .131. Outside hitter Ceren Aki led the Wave with eight kills and hitting .278. The freshman also landed two digs, totaling 10 points. Also, senior setter Kate Van Houten tallied 23 assists and six digs on the offensive end.

Against the Bearcats (7-17, 5-9 AAC) in Cincinnati, OH, The Green Wave offense hit .205 in the match and held the Bearcats to a .311 attack percentage. Outside hitter Makenzie Martian led the Wave with 14 kills, hitting .303 overall. Libero Jillian Dits carried the defense with 15 digs and three assists. Senior setter Katherine Crosley moved the ball well, tallying 20 assists, five kills, and five digs.

Wichita State holds a 13-11 record on the 2022 campaign and is ranked third in the AAC standings. The Shockers secured two conference wins for their season last weekend against East Carolina (9-10) and Temple (5-13). Wichita took its first match 3-1 by a score of (27-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16) on Friday, Nov 4, and picked up their second conference 3-1 win of the weekend against Temple by scores of (25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15) on Sunday, Nov 6. The last time the Wave and the Shockers faced off this season was Oct 23, when the Wave rolled its way to a 3-2 victory over the Shockers by scores of (25-17,19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-4).

The University of Tulsa is currently 11-14 this season and ranked seventh in the AAC standings. The Golden Hurricane grabbed a 3-1 victory (25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 25-14) last weekend in a four-set match over Temple (10-8) on Friday, Nov 4, followed by a 3-1 loss (25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15) to East Carolina on Sunday, Nov 6. The last time the Wave matched up against Tulsa was Oct 21, when Tulane dropped the match 3-0 to Tulsa by scores of (17-25, 23-25, 20-25). Tulsa will face Huston (23-2), the number one ranked team in the AAC, on Friday, Nov 12, before traveling to New Orleans to take on the Wave on the 13th.
