HOUSTON -Â The Tulane University baseball team (24-12-1) fell 9-10 to the University of Houston (23-13) on Saturday inside Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
The Green Wave was unable to capitalize on opportunities as it left five runners on base in the second series loss of the season.
Â
Six different Greenies had multiple hits in this afternoon's contest in Ethan Groff, Jackson Linn, Brady Marget, Chase Engelhard, Trevor Minder, and Brady Hebert. Groff, Marget, Engelhard, Minder and Hebert all picked up extra-base hits in the contest. Â
Â
Freshmen right-hander Michael Massey was on the bump for Tulane and struck out three in 4.2 innings of work. Massey allowed six earned runs on nine hits.
Clayton picked up the win coming out of the bullpen for Houston and went 1.1 innings allowing one hit and no runs.Â
Â
The Green Wave wasted no time getting on the board and took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on home runs from Groff and Marget.Â
Â
The next few innings were quiet, the Wave had a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. With two outs the Green Wave allowed nine runs on seven hits to take a 10-4 lead.
Â
The Wave would fight back scoring three runs on three hits in the following frame cutting the lead in half. Two innings later in the top of the eighth Tulane would slash the lead again
with a two-RBI double off the bat of Hebert bringing the score to 10-9 heading into the final frame.Â
Tulane wouldn't be able to get any more runs in, dropping the series in Houston.
