
Baseball Heads back to the Capitol City on Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS- The Tulane University baseball team (19-9-1) will hit the road to start off the week in Baton Rouge for a matchup with Southern (8-19) on Wednesday. Â The showdown will be Tulane's first and only meeting with Southern this season.

THE MATCHUP
- First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
- The matchup can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM. and the Varsity app.
- Tulane bested Southern in its only meeting in the 2021 season, 6-0 in New Orleans.
HIGHLIGHTING THE WAVE
- Tulane is 6-1 in weekend series this weekend including series wins over Mississippi State and LA Tech.
- Tulane is currently fourth in NCAA Division I baseball in doubles with 75 through 29 games. The Wave trails the number one spot, UNLV, by five doubles.
- The Green Wave hits .267 as a group and has a 4.11 ERA as a pitching staff.
- Freshman Grant Siegel touts a 1.000 ERA accumulated over 36.0 innings of work. The right-hander has the10th-lowest ERA in the nation.
- Redshirt sophomore Ethan Groff leads the Green Wave in hits (38), runs scored (32), and doubles (14). Groff is tied for sixth in the nation in two-baggers.
- Freshman outfielder Jackson Linn has a .368 average over 57 at-bats and had a twelve-game reached base streak that was snapped in last Sunday's closer in Memphis.
- Tulane dropped a midweek clash to New Orleans 16-4 Tuesday night on the Lakefront.
- All of Tulane's runs were scored on the long ball including two homeruns from Luis Aviles.
SCOUTING THE JAGS
- Southern is coming off a weekend sweep of SWAC opponent Texas Southern. The Jags outscored the Tigers 29-15 in three game endeavor over the weekend. Â
- Memphis has collected series wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Grambling and Texas Southern.
- The Jag's pitching staff has a 7.58 ERA and the batters hit .251 as a group.
- Sophomore outfielder JJ Rollon leads the club in average (.333), hits (30), and triples (3).
