Â
Tulane comes into the series tied for eighth in the league but can get as high as a five seed in next week's conference tournament in Clearwater, Florida.
Â
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Logan Kohler comes into the series sporting a .310 batting average and .540 slugging percentage, while Anthony Hansen's .944 OPS, 32 runs scored, 56 hits, 11 home runs, 100 total bases, 31 walks and .409 on-base percentage are best. Â
On the mound, closer Dalton Kendrick's 12 saves are tied for third in the nation, while Dalton Fowler's 100 strikeouts rank 12th and lead the league. In last weekend's sweep at the hands of East Carolina, the Tigers started Seth Garner (1-4, 6.36 ERA), Fowler (5-5, 3.94 ERA) and Luke Ellis (3-3, 5.08 ERA).
Â
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE GREEN WAVE
First baseman Justin Murray and left fielder Cameron Nickens drove in four runs apiece to fuel visiting Houston's 17-11 back-and-forth win over host Tulane Sunday afternoon on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Â
Braden Forsyth (2-0) rescued a rocky performance by UH starter Cade Citelli with the win in relief. Forsyth allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in three and one-third innings. Murray came in and recorded his ninth save, allowing two runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk while getting the game's final seven outs.
Â
Tulane got to Citelli early and often, chasing him after three innings with seven runs on five hits.
Â
Cristian Sanchez (0-6) suffered the defeat for the home team. He gave up three runs on two hits with one walk. He failed to record an out.
Â
Right fielder Brandon Uhse, third baseman Zac Arnold, shortstop Jon McMillan and center fielder Drew Blanco all scored three runs for Houston.
Â
Center fielder Teo Banks knocked in three runs for Tulane, two of which came on a two-run shot to center in the third inning. Catcher Seth Beckstead gave the Wave a 1-0 lead with a solo homer to left in the second. Right fielder Jacob LaPrairie led the team with three hits, while he, left fielder Brady Hebert, Banks, and Beckstead all scored twice.
Â
Neither team showed a ton of control on the mound, combining for 15 walks (Tulane 8, Houston 7) and four hit batters (Tulane 3, Houston 1).
Â
The homer by Banks gave him 12 for the season and tied Simon Baumgardt for the team lead.
