Tigers Romp in Series Opener Against Wave

MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis baseball team built a nine-run lead in the first three innings of play and went on to win 14-2 over visiting Tulane in seven innings Thursday evening at FedEx Park.

The Tigers improved to 27-25 overall and 9-13 in the American Athletic Conference. The Green Wave dipped to 14-38 and 7-15 in the league.

Glenn Green III (5-0) was credited with the win, giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks in just two innings. Luke Ellis got his first save, hurling the game's final five innings, allowing nary a run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.Â

Tulane starter Dylan Carmouche (3-8) had his second straight subpar outing, giving up seven runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks. The team's quartet of hurlers struggled with their control, issuing 11 walks.

Memphis third baseman Austin Baskin, the team's cleanup hitter, had a big night. He went 4-for-4 at the plate, courtesy of three doubles, driving in eight runs. Second baseman Will Spears knocked in four runs with a 2-for-4 effort. Shortstop Jake Curtis, designated hitter Logan Kohler and left fielder Anthony Hansen scored 10 of the team's runs for the evening.

Tulane center fielder Teo Banks was the lone Green Wave player to post two hits, including one that was a solo homer to right in the first inning. The round-tripper was his 13th of the season, moving him one past Simon Baumgardt for the team's top mark. Later in the inning, right fielder Jake LaPrairie doubled in Baumgardt with a double down the right field line for the balance of Tulane's offense.

The second game of the series will be Friday at 6 p.m.
