
No. 12 Bowling Travels To Delaware for Northeast Classic This Weekend

New Orleans –The No. 12 ranked Tulane University bowling team gets back on the road this weekend and heads to New Castle, Delaware for the Northeast Classic hosted by Sacred Heart at the 62-lane Bowlerama. The tournament goes from January 19-21. The first day of action, Jan. 19, begins at 9:30 a.m. CST. The second day, Jan. 20, starts at 8:25 a.m. CST. The third day, Jan. 21, rolls at 7:25 a.m. CST.
There are a total of 37 teams (rank) at the tournament in Adelphi, Arkansas State (6), Bryant, Central Missouri (22), Chestnut Hill, Delaware State (24), Felician, Holy Family, Howard, Jacksonville State (1), Long Island, Louisiana Tech (4), Maryland-Eastern Shore (13), Maryville (10), McKendree (21), Merrimack (13), Molloy, Morgan State , Mount Aloysius, Mount St. Mary's (15), North Carolina A&T (5), Nebraska (7), New Jersey City, Niagara, Norfolk State, Oklahoma Christian (20), Sacred Heart (17), St. Anselm, St. Francis, Sam Houston (11), Stephen F. Austin (9), Tulane (12), UAB, Vanderbilt (2), Wagner, Wilmington and Youngstown State (3).
Nineteen of the latest top 25 programs are expected to compete, making this one of the most talented and largest tournaments of the year. With exception of No. 8 Duquesne, the entire top 10 is at this tournament.
The Northeast Classic will follow the standard 13-match rotation this weekend. There will be five Baker matches on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT and total pinfalls will determine the winners in each head-to-head match. Five traditional matches will follow on Saturday starting at 8:25 a.m. CT with pinfall again determining the winners. The total pins from the first 10 matches of the tournament will determine seeding for the bracket play on Sunday, which begins at 7:25 a.m. CT with three best 4-of-7 baker matches with the Awards ceremony to follow.
Friday, 9:30 a.m. CST – Five Baker matches
Saturday, 8:25 a.m. CST – Five traditional matches
Sunday, 7:25 a.m. CST – Three best-of-seven Baker matches.
On the first day of competition, Tulane starts against Sacred Heart in lanes 53-54. In match two, the program squares off against Wagner in lanes 45-46. In the third match, Tulane takes on Bryant in lanes 23-24. The fourth match sees the Green Wave against UMES in lanes 31-32. The fifth match is a matchup will be a bye for Tulane.
The second day of the tournament, for traditional play, sees Tulane starting the day with a position round in the sixth match. In the second match of the day, and the seventh match overall, the program takes on Saint Francis in lanes 23-24. In the third match of the day, and the eighth overall, Tulane and Long Island square off in lanes 5-6. The fourth match of the day, and the ninth overall, sees Tulane and Merrimack competing against each other in lanes 57-58. The fifth match of the day, and the 10th overall, is against Morgan State in lanes 39-40.
The five individuals that accumulate the highest pin fall totals during the traditional team games will earn a position on the all-tournament teams. The MVP award is given to the individual with the highest tournament average.
Last time out at the Stormin' Blue and White Classic from Jan. 8-10 in Las Vegas, the program finished 11th overall with a 6-6 record. The team totaled 13,003 pins and averaged 185.75 pins. Mia Stolakis was the team's top finisher in eighth place with 1,041 pins and an average of 208.20. For her outstanding individual efforts, Stolakis also earned a place on the Stormin' Blue and White Classic All-Tournament Team. Kristen Derr also placed in the top 20 in 13th place with 1,032 pins and her average of 206.40
On the season, Kristen Derr has the team's most pins at 6,251 and average at 201.6. Derr also has the highest game on the squad as she rolled a 280 at the Stormin' Blue and White Classic.
This year's Tulane roster features six returners in Morgan Gitlitz, Yarelis Alvarez, Sofiia Druchyna, Katharina Mente, Mia Stolakis, Cassidy Williams plus four newcomers in Juanelyz Solla, Emma Fetterman, Kristen Derr and Linnea Holcomb. Stolakis became the first Tulane bowler to ever qualify for the Junior USA Team with her performance at US Team Trials from Jan. 2-7.
Following this weekend's action, the next time the program is back on the lanes is from February 9-11 at the Flyer Classic in Lockport, Illinois at the Strike and Spare II.
