Linn’s Two Homers Key Wave Win
Feb 28, 2024 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane left fielder Jackson Linn went 3-for-3, including two homers, to lift the host Green Wave in a 6-3 win over visiting UNO Tuesday evening on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
The victory evened TU's record to 4-4 overall and captured the first round of the Pelican Cup. The visitors dropped to that same record.
Linn's homers came in the fourth and sixth innings. Second baseman Connor Rasmussen and third baseman Gavin Schulz each posted two hits with the former scoring two runs, the first coming on a straight steal of home in the second inning. Schulz had a third-inning blast of his own, while Rasmussen nearly had one, tripling off the right-center field wall in the eighth inning.
UNO shortstop Collin Loupe went 2-for-4 at the plate.
On the mound, Tulane reliever Blaise Wilcenski (1-0) got his first victory, allowing a run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk in two and two-thirds innings. He yielded the bump to Henry Shuffler, who picked up his first save after pitching clean eighth and ninth innings. Starter Luc Fladda struck out six in four and a third innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks.
Privateers starter Cortez Dennis (0-1) was tagged with the defeat after he gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings. He also struck out five and walked none.
The Green Wave led the whole way after Rasmussen's swipe of home.
Tulane will now turn its attention to another home series with Yale this weekend. The team is set to host the Bulldogs for a three-game set that begins Friday at 6:30 p.m.
