New Orleans – The No. 13 ranked Tulane University bowling team returns home to host the inaugural CUSA Bowling Championships this week at Colonial Lanes in Harahan. The tournament goes from March 21-24. All the matches will be shown live on ESPN+ (just search CUSA). Tulane, as the eighth seed, will start play on opening day at 10:30 a.m. against No. 9 seed Valparaiso in a play-in/elimination match.
The first day, Thursday, only features a play-in match starting at 10:30 a.m. between the 8-seed Tulane and the 9-seed Valparaiso in Round 1. The second day on Friday is when double elimination play begins with Round 2 and matches 2-5 beginning at 9 a.m. With a victory over Valparaiso on Thursday, Tulane will then square off against No. 1 seed Jacksonville State in lanes 5-6 on Friday. Round 3 features matches 6-9 at 2 p.m. later that afternoon. A Tulane victory against Jacksonville State keeps the team on the winning side of the bracket and the program will square off with the winner of No. 4 seed Vanderbilt and No. 5 seed Louisiana Tech in the eighth match on lanes 11-12. A loss to Jacksonville State puts Tulane in the Contender's side of the bracket against the loser of Vanderbilt and Louisiana Tech in the sixth match in lanes 19-20 at 2 p.m. in an elimination contest. Round 4 of the tournament starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with matches 10-11. Round 5 features matches 12-13 at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday starts with Round 6 and match 14 at 9 a.m. The CUSA Championship will be contested in match 15 at a to be determined time on Sunday. The if necessary Second Championship match (match 16) will follow later that afternoon.
The CUSA Bowling Championships is a nine-team, double-elimination tournament with the winner getting the conference's automatic berth into the NCAAs. In the best of three match format, teams will bowl one standard five-person game for total pinfall, then five baker games for total pinfall. If one team wins both the traditional match and the baker match, they advance. If both teams split the standard and baker matches, they will move on to a best-of-seven series of baker games. If necessary, the second championship match on Sunday will be a Baker Best of Seven match play only.
CUSA Bowling Championships Format
1) Match 1: Five-person team match
2) Match 2: Baker Total Pinfalls
3) Match 3: Baker Best of Seven Match play (if necessary)
Each game is scored as a cumulative total pinfall game. All scores shall be recorded on a scratch (no bonus) basis. Scores shall be recorded on a scoresheet in plain view of opposing players. All final game scores shall be recorded on the NCAA Score Reporting Form.
The All-Tournament team selection process will be coordinated by the Communications staff. Each head coach will nominate up to five student-athletes from his/her institution. Head coaches will select the All-Tournament team by voting for six individuals. Coaches are precluded from voting for next institution's student-athletes. The top vote recipient shall be the Most Valuable Bowler while the next five top vote recipients will be named to the All-Tournament Team.

Bowling has been an NCAA-sponsored sport since the 2003-04 season, with the first NCAA Championship taking place in 2004.
Considered one of the NCAA's winter sports, Women's Bowling's season runs from October through the end of March. The NCAA Championship is held in April, and each NCAA program must bowl a minimum of 15 dates to be eligible for the NCAA Championship.
In NCAA Bowling, programs from all classifications compete together for one championship each year. Seventeen teams, nine automatic qualifiers and eight at-large selections, are chosen by the NCAA Bowling Committee to compete in the Championship.
The field is split into five regions, competing at predetermined sites; each of the top four seeds, as chosen by the NCAA selection committee, is placed in a separate regional. Each regional is played as a double-elimination tournament.
All regional matches, except for what the NCAA calls "if necessary regional finals", are best-of-three matches bowled in the following order: five-person team, Baker total pinfall, Baker best-of-seven match play. Any "if necessary regional final" will be Baker best-of-seven.
Regional winners advance to the championship event, which will also be double-elimination. All matches are bowled under the standard format for regionals (best-of-three matches using specified formats in a specific order) except the championship final, which will be Baker best-of-seven.

On the season, Derr has the team's most pins at 10,337 and average at 202.6. Derr also has the highest game on the squad as she rolled a 280 at the Stormin' Blue and White Classic.

This year's Tulane roster features six returners in Morgan Gitlitz, Yarelis Alvarez, Sofiia Druchyna, Katharina Mente, Mia Stolakis, Cassidy Williams plus four newcomers in Juanelyz Solla, Emma Fetterman, Kristen Derr and Linnea Holcomb.
