Â
Both teams are now 15-12 on the season after combining for 29 hits (UTSA 17, Tulane 12) during the contest. UTSA's conference record moved to 4-1 as it clinched the series win, while Tulane's dropped to 2-3.
Â
Right fielder Tye Odom went 4-for-5 for the Roadrunners with three RBI to go with two RBI each by left fielder Caleb Hill, shortstop Matt King and third baseman Hector Rodriguez. Odom and center fielder Mason Lytle, who had three hits himself, tripled. Hill had a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Roadrunners a 6-1 lead.
Â
Tulane second baseman Connor Rasmussen went 3-for-5 and was one of three Green Wave players to blast a solo homer. His round-tripper came in the second inning, as did catcher Colin Tuft's. Third baseman Gavin Schulz also added one in the fifth inning.
Â
Seven different Tulane players drove in a run, while Rasmussen, Schulz and first baseman Brady Marget doubled.
Â
UTSA reliever Daniel Garza (5-1) went five and a third innings, allowing three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks to get the victory. The Roadrunners have used just four pitchers through the first two games of the series.
Â
Tulane starter Chandler Welch (3-1) suffered his first defeat as he gave up eight runs (seven earned) in two innings on seven hits with one strikeout and two walks. Trey Cehajic did a nice job at the end of the game, surrendering just one run on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks over the last four and one-third innings.
Â
Of UTSA's 17 hits, only three went for extra bases.
Â
The series finale will be played at noon on Saturday.
