Eight is Enough for Wave against South Florida
Apr 13, 2024 | Baseball
Â
Both teams are now 20-15 on the season. The Bulls enter the series finale at 6-5 in the American Athletic Conference. Tulane will do so at 5-6.
Â
Tulane third baseman Gavin Schulz drove in three runs, while first baseman Brady Marget, second baseman Connor Rasmussen, designated hitter Tracy Mitchem and left fielder Ben Romano all knocked in two.Â
Â
South Florida catcher Ben Rozenblum went 3-for-3 with a double to go with third baseman Matt Rose's 2-for-4 effort.
Â
Green Wave hurler Chandler Welch (4-1) got the victory, allowing four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Henry Shuffler, who inherited (and escaped) a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth, recorded his second save. He struck out four with one walk and two hits in two and one-third innings.
Â
South Florida starter Jack Cebert (4-3) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on that many hits with four strikeouts and two walks.Â
Â
The Green Wave jumped out to a 6-1 lead through two innings and was never really threatened after that. Jackson Linn delivered the game-winning blow with a double to right center that brought the 10-run rule into effect.Â
Â
Despite the 25 runs scored in the first two games of the series, Tulane's Teo Banks has the lone home run thus far, a solo shot that led off the bottom of the second on Saturday. The blast was his team-leading eighth of the season.
Â
Tuft also swiped three bases and kept his hitting (19 games) and on-base (27) streaks intact Saturday. Schulz stole twice as well.
Â
With the victory, the Green Wave improved to 14-1 this season when leading after five innings.
Â
Sunday's series finale will start at 1 p.m.
