Wave Completes Sweep of Sixth-Ranked Pirates
May 12, 2024 | Baseball
Â
Rasmussen rocketed a ball down the right field line, setting off a wild celebration, and improved his team's record to 29-23 overall and 13-11 in the American Athletic Conference. The Pirates dropped to 37-13 overall and 16-8 in the league.
Â
Tulane drilled four of the game's six home runs on a blustery day in NOLA, two by left fielder Jackson Linn and one each by third baseman Gavin Schulz and catcher Colin Tuft. Linn and Tuft drove in three runs apiece and the former scored three times.
Â
ECU designated hitter Ryan McCrystal and right fielder Jacob Jenkins-Cowart combined to go 6-for-10 with six RBI. Center fielder Carter Cunningham, second baseman Jacob Starling, Jenkins-Cowart and shortstop Joey Berini all scored twice.
Â
Green Wave reliever Jacob Moore (5-3) picked up his second win of the weekend, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks in three and two-thirds innings.
Â
Tulane reliever Jackson DiLorenzo (1-2) suffered the loss.
Â
The Green Wave came out on fire, using a five-run second inning (including Tuft's three-run shot) to grab a 5-0 lead.Â
Â
The game was then tied at 6-all, 7-all and 9-all as the game drifted into extra innings. After making two fabulous catches on the warning track in the top half of the frame, Linn led off the bottom of the 10th with a walk, promptly stole second and slid into home headfirst on Rasmussen's heroics. He had a monster weekend, drilling three of his four homers this week against the Pirates, hitting .455 with a slugging percentage of 1.364.
Â
Linn's game-tying two-run shot in the eighth also gave him 12 homers for the season, tying him with center fielder Teo Banks for the team lead.
Â
This weekend's sweep was Tulane's first over ECU since 2008 and its first at home against the Pirates since 2005.
Â
The Green Wave will round out its AAC regular season schedule with three games at Charlotte on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The first two games will start at 6 p.m. ET/5 CT, while the series finale will be played at 1 ET/noon CT.
