Tulane Clashes with No. 19 Memphis in Uptown Thursday Night

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball welcomes a top 25 opponent in the 19th-ranked Memphis Tigers to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse for an American Athletic Conference showdown on Thursday night. The Green Wave will aim to remain unbeaten at home in league play while knocking off a ranked Tigers team for the second year in a row.

The matchup between the Wave and the Tigers is set to tipoff at 8 p.m. on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the 77th all-time meeting between Tulane and Memphis with the Green Wave trailing the series 14-62. The Wave and the Tigers split the two matchups last season with each team defending home court. Tulane has won each of the last three meetings in Uptown and holds a 10-21 record against Memphis at home. In the most recent matchup in Uptown the Green Wave defeated the 10th-ranked Tigers 81-79 on Jan. 21, 2024.

The Green Wave is 28-177 against ranked opponents since 1950 including an 18-60 mark at home. The last time the Wave defeated a top 25 opponent was the victory over the 10th-ranked Memphis Tigers last season. Tulane lost its most recent meeting against a ranked foe losing 72-85 at No. 24 South Florida on March 5, 2024.

In its last time out, Tulane bounced back into the win column with a dominant paint performance to defeat Rice 82-71 on the road on Jan. 25. The Green Wave outscored the Owls 46-14 around the rim while connecting at a 51.8 percent clip from the field. Gregg Glenn III led six players in double figures for the Wave with 17 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and one block.

Kam Williams and Glenn III both earned American Athletic Conference weekly honors on Monday. Williams picked up his second Freshman of the Week honor after posting 11 points, three blocks, and two steals against Rice. Glenn III earned Honorable Mention following his 17-point performance in the win over the Owls.

Memphis enters the matchup on a three-game winning streak after defeating UAB 100-77 at home on Sunday to improve to 16-4 overall and 6-1 in league play. Sophomore PJ Haggerty paces the offensive attack for the Tigers leading the conference and ranking second in the country in scoring averaging 22.1 points per game.

The Tigers have been powered by their efficiency on offense this season. Memphis leads The American in field goal percentage at 47.3 percent, three-point percentage at 39.5, and effective field goal percentage at 54.3. The shooting percentage from beyond the arc for the Tigers also rates eighth nationally.

Following the game against Memphis, the Tulane will host Tulsa on Sunday, February 2. The matchup between the Green Wave and the Golden Hurricane is scheduled to tipoff at 1 p.m. on ESPNU.
