Green Wave Rolls Over Roadrunners, 92-63

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball (8-7, 2-0) dominated on both ends of the floor in a convincing 92-63 victory over UTSA (6-7, 0-1) inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Saturday to improve 2-0 in conference play. The Green Wave connected at a stellar 63.5 percent clip from the field offensively while also holding the top scoring team in the American Athletic Conference to just 63 points on 34.4 percent shooting.
With the victory, Tulane begins league play 2-0 for first time since the 2021-22 season and just the second time under Head Coach Ron Hunter. The Wave also improved to 7-2 at home this season and 4-1 all-time against the Roadrunners.
Offensively, the Green Wave shot a season-high 63.5 percent (33-52) from the field and scored more than 90 points for the second time this season. Tulane also dished a season-best 25 assists with four different players tallying at least four assists.
Kaleb Banks and Rowan Brumbaugh led the offensive attack for the Wave combining for 47 of the team's 92 points in the contest. Banks finished with 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting while also adding six rebounds, a career-high four assists, three blocks, and three steals. The performance marked the third consecutive game and the seventh time this season the junior has scored at least 20 points. Brumbaugh posted 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting and added six assists and a pair of steals.
The only other player in double figures for Tulane was Kam Williams with 11 points to go with four boards and two blocks. Meanwhile, Gregg Glenn III stuffed the stat sheet for the Wave ending the night with nine points, eight rebounds, and a career-high seven assists.
On the defensive side of the ball Tulane held UTSA to its second lowest scoring game with 63 points on just 34.4 percent shooting from the field. Entering the game the Roadrunners led the American Athletic Conference in scoring averaging 80.5 points per game. The Green Wave also limited the Roadrunners to a season-low 19.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
For the second consecutive game the Wave started strong scoring the first nine points of the contest before taking a 21-8 lead with 14:30 on the clock. After UTSA briefly pulled back within seven points Tulane went on a 15-0 run to push its advantage beyond 20 points. The Wave ended the opening half with a 24-point advantage scoring a season-best 47 points in the first half to hit the break up 47-23.
In the second half the Green Wave continued to control the game on both ends of the floor. Tulane eventually extended its lead to as many as 35 points, the largest lead the Wave has ever held in a conference game since joining the AAC in 2014, at 74-39 with 9:10 to play. The Wave tallied 45 points in the second half marking the ninth time this season the team has scored at least 40 points after halftime. Tulane ultimately closed out the victory 92-63 to improve to 2-0 in league play and 8-7 overall.
Up next, Tulane will head to Birmingham, Alabama, to visit UAB on Tuesday, January 7. The game between the Green Wave and the Blazer is scheduled to tipoff at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
