Senior Day Showdown Set for Saturday Against Shockers

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane's women's basketball team will look to get back on track on Saturday when the Shockers of Wichita State visit for Senior Day inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

The Green Wave enters at 15-10 overall and 8-6 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Shockers are at 9-19 and 3-12 in the league.

Tulsa's Mady Cartwright registered 23 points on five 3-pointers as the host Golden Hurricane got the better of visiting Tulane Wednesday evening by a 73-54 tally in Reynolds Center.

Tulsa improved to 13-13 overall and 7-7 in the American Athletic Conference with the win, while the Green Wave dipped to 15-10 and 8-6 in the league.

Cartwright was joined in double figures by Paige Bradley (16) and Delanie Crawford (12). Hadley Periman led the team on the glass with nine rebounds to go with three blocked shots.Â

The Olive and Blue was led by Sherese Pittman, who had 21 points before fouling out. The Richmond, Virginia native also had a season-high four triples and four steals. Kyren Whittington made six of her nine field goal attempts for 14 points and Kendall Sneed tallied 10 points. Amira Mabry posted a team-high eight boards.

Tulsa hounded Tulane into a season-high 29 turnovers, which resulted in 14 Golden Hurricane steals and a resounding 33-14 advantage in points off turnovers. Nineteen (19) of those Green Wave miscues came in the first half.

Whittington put the Green Wave in front 7-3 on a 3-pointer at the 7:34 mark of the first quarter. However, Tulsa outscored the visitors 20-5 during the rest of the period and never looked back.

The Golden Hurricane increased its lead to 25 (54-29) on a triple by Periman with 3:02 left in the third.

Tulane mounted a mini-run to chop the bulge to 12 twice in the fourth quarter but went scoreless in the final three minutes, 30 seconds.

SENIOR DAY:Â Tulane will honor five seniors in advance of Saturday's game (Victoria Keenan, Kierra Middleton, Sherese Pittman, Kianni Westbrook and Kyren Whittington).

WHITTINGTON GETS TO 1500:Â With 10 points in the win over Wichita State, Kyren Whittington landed right on 1,500 career points. She has 1,146 at Tulane and registered 450 during her freshman season at ULM in 2021-22.

FTS AND FOULS:Â Tulane has made as many or more free throws than the opposition in 17 games this season and has fouled as many or fewer times than its opponents on that same number of occasions (including ten of the last 12 games).Â

KEENAN:Â Victoria Keenan paces the league (and is 20th nationally) with a 43.8 percent clip from the perimeter. She is also 35th in the country with 2.56 3-pointers per contest and 38th with 64 total triples on the year.
