Seniors Honored, Come up Big for Tulane on Saturday

POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE
NEW ORLEANS – The trio of Sherese Pittman, Victoria Keenan and Kyren Whittington accounted for 45 points as the host Green Wave picked up a 68-64 victory over Wichita State on Senior Day at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
That group, along with fellow seniors Kianni Westbrook and Kierra Middleton, were honored in a pregame ceremony.
The win moved Tulane to 16-10 overall and 9-6 in the American Athletic Conference. Wichita State dipped to 9-20 and 3-13 in the league.
Pittman notched her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 16 rebounds and Keenan added 16 points on four 3-pointers. Whittington contributed 12 points. Amira Mabry was the team's top rebounder with 11. Freshman Kendall Sneed posted six assists and four steals.
The Shockers' Princess Anderson led all scorers with 25 points and Salese Blow tossed in 17 before fouling out. Jayla Murray, who was also disqualified on fouls, collected a team-high seven caroms.
Wichita State had a four-point lead (19-15) through one quarter, but Tulane limited the visitors to just six points in the second quarter.
Tulane led 36-25 at halftime and built the margin to as many as 17 (61-44) on a Whittington layup with 7:02 left in the contest.
The home team was held without a field goal for the game's last four minutes, seven seconds but hung on for the victory.
The Green Wave also did a solid job defending the perimeter, limited WSU to a 25 percent effort (7-for-28).
Tulane's final scheduled home game of the season will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against first-place UTSA. The Roadrunners won 57-55 over Rice on Saturday and now stand at 23-3 and 14-1 in the league.
