Mean Green Holds Off Tulane Rally in Denton

DENTON, TX – The host North Texas women's basketball team made each of its first six 3-point attempts and kept visiting Tulane at bay down the stretch to secure a wire-to-wire 69-64 American Athletic Conference victory Sunday afternoon at The Super Pit in Denton.
The Mean Green improved to 17-7 overall and 9-3 in the AAC, while the Green Wave fell to 15-8 and 8-4 in the league.
The home team was led by Desiree Wooten's 16 points. Ereauna Hardaway added 15, while Tommisha Lampkin and Chaina Price tacked on 11 and 10, respectively. Aniyah Johnson led the way in rebounding with 10.
Kendall Sneed (16) led Tulane in scoring. Sherese Pittman shook off early foul trouble record her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Amira Mabry had a game-high 12 boards and Victoria Keenan registered four steals.
North Texas jumped Tulane early, boasting a 24-5 lead after one quarter of play. The Green Wave outscored the home team 41-29 over the game's next two quarters but could get no closer than five down the stretch.
Neither team took particularly great care of the ball. The Green Wave committed 24 turnovers, while the Mean Green had 19.
North Texas finished 8-for-13 (61.5 percent) from the perimeter against the AAC's stingiest 3-point percentage defense (26.9 percent entering Sunday).
Four players fouled out Sunday, three by North Texas and Sadie Shores for Tulane.
The Mean Green's bench outscored Tulane's 22-8 as well.
Tulane will be back home Saturday against Temple in a game that will start at 3 p.m.
