
Baseball Falls 2-1 To Pepperdine

MALIBU, CA – The Tulane baseball team (7-3) dropped the team's second straight game by a 2-1 margin to Pepperdine (3-8) on Saturday afternoon at Eddie D. Field Stadium in the middle game of the three-game series.
Trey Cehajic (2-1) started for Tulane and pitched in and out of trouble in going five innings with two runs allowed and three strikeouts in taking the loss. Blaise Wilcenski had a solid performance out of the pen for the Wave with two scoreless innings of relief. Carter Benbrook pitched a scoreless frame with a strikeout in the eighth inning. Matthew Boyer (1-1) pitched well for Pepperdine in going seven innings with one run allowed and five strikeouts. Â Adam Troy earned the save for the Waves in going the final two innings with four strikeouts.
Tulane outhit Pepperdine 7-5 in the game, but also left nine runners on compared to six for the Waves.
Brock Slaton led the offense for Tulane with a pair of hits including the team's RBI. Matthias Haas also had a pair of hits in the game for the Green Wave. Michael Lombardi, Connor Rasmussen and Tanner Chun each had a hit.
Pepperdine scored first as Max Bernal drove in a run with his single to center after a pair of hit batters to start the game.
The Waves added a run to the advantage in the third inning on a Julian Nunez single.
Tulane cut the deficit in half, 2-1, on a Slaton single in the fourth inning to score Hugh Pinkney.
The Green Wave threatened in the ninth as Chun was hit by a pitch and Slaton walked with one out, but the next two were retired in order to secure the Pepperdine victory.
Next, Tulane plays the third and final game of the series against the Waves starting at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 2 before heading to Long Beach to take on the Dirtbags on Monday, March 2, at 8 p.m. CT

The two straight losses is the longest losing streak of the season for Tulane…Trey Cehajic has worked into the sixth inning in each of his three starts on the mound this season...The start in the outfield by Brock Slaton was his first since March of last season.
