TULANE GAME NOTES
New Orleans, LA - The Tulane baseball team (17-8, 2-1 AAC) gets back into conference play with a trip to Tampa to take on South Florida (13-9, 2-1 AAC) this weekend at USF Baseball Stadium starting on Friday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m. CT The rest of the game times for this weekend are 1 p.m. CT (Saturday) and 12 p.m. CT (Sunday).

The three games will be streamed on ESPN+. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Pitching Matchups
Tulane is slated to start lefty Luc Fladda in the opener on Friday evening against the Bulls. Fladda has been the team's Friday starter in each of the first six weekends of the season. He is 1-2 on the campaign with 38 strikeouts in 31.2 innings worked and only four walks. His 38 strikeouts rank him sixth in the conference. The 6-1 lefthander went 5-3 last year in his first season as a member of the Green Wave, sporting an earned run average of 4.77 with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 83 innings.
On Saturday, in the second game of the series, Tulane starts 6-8 righty Trey Cehajic. Cehajic is 3-1 on the year with a 3.38 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched. He worked as the team's Sunday starter in each of the first two weekends but moved up a day in the rotation against Pepperdine, North Dakota State and Wichita State. He best start of the season came against North Dakota State as he worked a career-high six innings against the Bison in limiting them to two runs. Cehajic hails from Shreveport, Louisiana and is in his second year with the program. As a junior he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his 19 appearances. He placed second on the team with four saves while totaling 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings thrown and a 0-2 record.
The Sunday starter for Tulane is to be determined at this point depending on the results and bullpen usage in the two earlier games of the series.
USF hasn't officially announced the team's starters for the series.
Scouting USF
The Bulls (13-9, 2-1 AAC) took two-of-three over the weekend against UAB and did not have a midweek contest this week. The program is being led by Matt Rose's 339 batting average. Marcus Bodil has a team-high 22 runs scored, while Sebastian Greico leads the squad with his seven home runs and 26 RBIs. Ryan Pruitt is also off to a fast start with five home runs and 23 RBIs. USF has seven different players that have reached double figures in runs scored this season. Bryce Archie has been the top starter with a 2.49 ERA, a 2-1 record and 21 strikeout in 21 innings pitched. Corey Braun is 2-2 on the year with a 3.22 ERA plus 42 strikeouts in 36.1 innings pitched. The Bulls have used multiple closers this year with four different players registering a save. The program is under the leadership of Mitch Hannahs. Hannahs is in his first year leading the Bulls after working at Indiana State for the last 11 years. He led the Sycamores to four NCAA Tournament appearances the last five years including a run to the Super Regionals in 2023.
Series History
Tulane leads the all-time series with South Florida 43-30 since the first game of the series in 1992 (a 5-3 Tulane victory). The Green Wave took two-of-three against the Bulls last season in New Orleans by scores of 11-5 and 14-4 in the first two games before dropping the final contest 9-8.
Last Time Out
The Tulane baseball team (17-8) lost a closely contested 7-6 game in this season's first matchup of the Pelican Cup to UNO (13-10) on Tuesday, March 25, on Maestri Field at Privateer Park.
The game was ultimately decided in the ninth inning as the Green Wave had the tying run on third with two out only to see UNO's closer Bryce Calloway get a ground out to end the game and give the first game of the Pelican Cup to the Privateers.
Henry Shuffler (0-1) started the game and allowed two runs in an inning. J.D. Rodriguez surrendered three runs in 1.2 innings. Gavin Smith was the next reliever in for Tulane and gave up a pair of runs with two strikeouts. Wes Burton steadied the game for Tulane in going three innings with seven strikeouts. Julius Ejike-Charles continued the trend with a strikeout in a scoreless eighth.
Connor Rasmussen and Jason Wachs led the offense with two hits each for Tulane. Gavin Schulz had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. Tanner Chun had a home run and four RBIs. Nate Johnson and Kaikea Harrison each had a hit while Harrison also knocked in a run.
Lombardi Named to AAC Honor Roll – Week 6
Michael Lombardi was named to the AAC's Weekly Honor Roll for the third straight week on Monday, March 24.
Lombardi aided Tulane to a conference series victory over Wichita State over the weekend. The team now has won all five of the team's weekend series at home. He played a pivotal role for the team both on the mound and at the plate. He picked up multi-inning saves in the victories on Saturday and Sunday. He threw a combined 3.0 innings in the series and recorded six strikeouts without allowing a hit and surrendering just two walks with two saves. On Saturday he threw 1.2 innings and struck out four to earn the save in Tulane's dramatic 8-6 victory. On Sunday he again was called upon to protect a late lead and delivered with 1.1 scoreless frames with two strikeouts to earn his seventh save of the season. His seven saves this year gives him 12 career saves to move him into a tie for eighth place all-time at the school. At the plate he also did damage with a .333 batting average, three runs, four hits, two home runs and six RBIs for 10 total bases, a slugging percentage of .833 plus two sacrifice flies.
Notables from the UNO Game
Connor Rasmussen with two hits against UNO extended his on-base streak to 23 games. With 11 strikeouts against the Privateers, the Tulane pitching staff has reached double figure in strikeouts in 16 of the team's 25 games this season (one more than all of last year in 62 games). Tulane has lost two in a row to the Privateers but still leads the all-time series by an 87-73 count. The Green Wave have also now lost consecutive games to Southland Conference opponents but still lead the series with current SLC teams by a 306-164 margin.
Next
Following the series against USF over the weekend, Tulane starts the following week on the road as well with a trip to take on Southern Miss on April 1 at 6 p.m. The program then returns home to play host to Northwestern State on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. before welcoming in Rice from April 4-6 for the next conference series.
