Tulane Hosts UAB for Regular Season Finale Sunday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball will have a chance to lock up a top-four seed and a double bye in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Championship as it welcomes the UAB Blazers to Uptown Sunday afternoon. With a win the Green Wave will secure the four seed and a double by into the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.

The matchup between the Wave and the Blazers is set to tipoff at 1 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the 41st all-time meeting between Tulane and UAB with the Green Wave trailing the series 13-27. The Wave has lost the last three matchups against the Blazers including a 69-81 loss earlier this season in Birmingham on January 7, 2025. Tulane holds a 7-11 record in Uptown against the Blazers losing the last seven meetings in the series in New Orleans. The last time the Green Wave defeated UAB at home came in a 76-73 overtime win on January 19, 2005.

In its last time out, Tulane dropped its final road game of the season at East Carolina 64-73 on Thursday, March 6. Four players scored in double figures for the Green Wave against the Pirates led by a season-high 21 points from Asher Woods. Joining him in double digits was Rowan Brumbaugh with 13 as well as Mari Jordan and Gregg Glenn III with 11 points each.

The Green Wave holds a 13-3 record at home this season including a 7-1 mark in league play. Tulane is averaging 78.5 points on 45.9 percent shooting from the floor and 36.4 percent from three in Uptown this season. Kaleb Banks and Brumbaugh lead the attack for the Wave at home averaging 17.9 and 17.4 points per game, respectively.

UAB enters the matchup with a 20-10 record overall and a 13-4 mark in conference play after defeating Florida Atlantic 89-80 at home on Thursday, March 6. The Blazers lead the league in scoring, rebounding, and assists averaging 83.5 points, 39.83 rebounds, and 16.4 assists per game. UAB also leads the conference and ranks seventh in the nation in fast break points averaging 16.17 per game.

Do-it-all forward Yaxel Lendeborg makes the engine run for the Blazers leading the team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals. The senior is averaging 17.3 points, 10.7 boards, 4.2 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game.

Following the matchup with UAB, the Green Wave will head to Fort Worth, Texas, for the 2025 AAC Championship. The tournament runs from Wednesday, March 12, to Sunday, March 16. Following the first round, which is being held at the Super Pit at North Texas, all remaining games of the tournament will be played at Dickies Arena.
