TULANE GAME NOTES
New Orleans - The Tulane baseball team (23-15, 7-5 AAC) gets back to conference play and hits the road to take on UTSA (28-9, 10-2 AAC) for a three-game set starting on Thursday night, April 17, at 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field

The series will be streamed on ESPN+. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Pitching Matchups
Tulane is slated to start lefty Luc Fladda in the opener on Thursday evening against the Roadrunners. Fladda has been the team's Friday starter in each of the first nine weekends of the season and moved up a day to be the series opener this week. He is 2-3 on the campaign with 47 strikeouts in 48.1 innings worked and only six walks. He is coming off a strong seven inning five strikeout outing against UAB last weekend. The 6-1 lefthander went 5-3 last year in his first season as a member of the Green Wave, sporting an earned run average of 4.77 with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 83 innings.
On Friday, in the second game of the series, Tulane starts 6-8 righty Trey Cehajic. Cehajic is 4-2 on the year with a 4.63 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched. He worked as the team's Sunday starter in each of the first two weekends but has been the regular Saturday hurler weekly since then and also moved up a day for this series. His best start of the season came against North Dakota State as he worked a career-high six innings against the Bison in limiting them to two runs. Cehajic hails from Shreveport, Louisiana and is in his second year with the program. As a junior he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his 19 appearances. He placed second on the team with four saves while totaling 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings thrown and a 0-2 record.
The Sunday starter for Tulane is to be determined at this point depending on the results and bullpen usage in the two earlier games of the series.
The Roadrunners will counter with Zach Royse on Thursday and Braylon Owns on Friday. Royse is 4-4 on the campaign with 49 strikeouts in 49.1 innings worked. He is limiting opponents to a .274 batting average against. Owens sports a 5-1 overall record this season with 50 strikeouts in 46.2 innings worked. He also has a save to his credit and is limiting opponents to a .230 batting average against. The expected starter on Sunday for UTSA has yet to be announced.
Scouting UTSA
UTSA (28-9, 10-2) are the top team in the conference and have won three in a row and five of the last six games. The program is an impressive 17-1 in home games this season. Mason Lytle has led the Roadrunners. Lytle hits .386 with 47 runs, 61 hits, 16 doubles, five home runs, 43 RBIs, 92 total bases, a .582 slugging percentage, and an on-base percentage of .438. He has also only struck out 11 times in 158 at bats this year. He also was just named the AAC Player of the Week on April 14. Andrew Stuckey hits 375 with 22 runs, 36 hits, 12 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs. Jordan Ballin is the third member of the squad hitting above .370 this season with a .375 batting average. Drew Detiefsen is the team leader in home runs (11) and RBIs (57) plus total bases (96). Robert Orloski has been the team's top reliever with a 7-0 record, a .3.24 ERA plus 41 strikeouts in 41.2 innings worked plus three saves. The team's top starter has been Conor Myles. Myles is 3-1 with 30 strikeouts in 39.2 innings worked. Pat Hallmark coaches the Roadrunners. Hallmark is in his fifth year leading the squad and is 168-105 in his career at UTSA and 234-153 overall in eight seasons.
Series History
Tulane is 3-6 all-time against UTSA including losing all three games to the Roadrunners last season at home. The program fell by scores of 6-3, 11-7 and 12-6 from March 28-30. Those were the first three games for the two schools since a three-game set was played during the 2014 campaign. This series is the first time that Tulane baseball has ever made the trip to San Antonio to play against the Roadrunners as the three-game series in 2013, 2014 and 2025 all came in New Orleans.
Last Time Out
The Tulane baseball team (23-15, 7-5 AAC) lost a 10-5 decision to visiting UNO (20-15) in the second game of the Pelican Cup on Tuesday evening, April 15, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
The game was decided early as the Privateers scored six runs in the opening frame and added on three more in the third and another tally in fourth. The Green Wave pitching staff held UNO scoreless for the final five innings, but the early deficit proved to be too difficult to overcome.
John-Paul Sauer (1-1) started for Tulane and surrendered four runs without being able to record an out. Wes Burton was the first man out of the bullpen. He surrendered three runs in 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. Grayson Smith then entered and lasted 0.2 innings with three runs, two hits and three walks allowed. Michael Devenney was called upon next and pitched 1.1 scoreless to help settle the game. Gavin Smith entered next and was up to the task with 1.1 scoreless with a strikeout and a hit allowed. J.D. Rodriguez closed it out for the club with 2.2 scoreless with a strikeout. On the day, the Tulane pitching staff surrendered seven hits and 11 walks.
Gavin Schulz led the offensive charge for the Green Wave with three hits and two runs scored. Connor Rasmussen totaled a hit, a run scored, an RBI and was hit by a pair of pitches. Theo Bryant IV had a two-hit night with a run scored. Nate Johnson reached base safely twice with a hit and a walk plus had an RBI.
Notables from the Midweek Against UNO – 4/15
The loss allowed the Privateers to win the Pelican Cup for the fourth time (2018, 2019, 2023 and 2025) since it was brought back in 2018 with a hiatus in both 2020 and 2021. The three hits from Gavin Schulz was his fourth game with three hits this season and his 11th multi-hit performance on the campaign. Schulz and Matthias Haas both extended their on-base streaks to a season-high 12 games. The game marked only the second game this season that Kaikea Harrison did not start at shortstop. The game with the Privateers was the 161st in school history between the schools with Tulane holding an 87-74 lead in the series. The game was the eighth of 10 that Tulane is playing against a Southland Conference opponent this year. The school is 307-166 all-time against current schools in the SLC.

Following the UTSA series, Tulane stays on the road and takes on No. 23 Southern Miss (25-12) on Tuesday, April 22, at 6 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park before getting back into league play and heading to Greenville, NC to battle against ECU (22-16, 7-5 AAC) from April 25-27.
