Baseball Downed 5-0 By Charlotte On Thursday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (30-22, 13-12 AAC) lost the series opener to Charlotte (33-20, 16-9 AAC) by a 5-0 margin on Thursday evening, May 15, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Luc Fladda (4-6) started for Tulane and allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts in four innings. Trey Cehajic was the first man out of the bullpen for the Green Wave. He allowed three runs in two innings with four strikeouts. Tayler Montiel entered next and threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Jacob Moore was the fourth and final pitcher used by Tulane. He allowed just one hit with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Gavin Schulz and Hugh Pinkney led the offensive attack with two hits each. Jason Wachs, Nate Johnson, James Agabedis III and Kaikea Harrison all had hits. Connor Rasmussen, Andrew McKenna and Harrison reached base on walks.
The win was earned by the 49ers Chase Carson (4-0) as he went 4.2 innings out of the bullpen with five strikeouts.
Charlotte started the scoring with a solo home run from Caleb Estes in the third inning.
The 49ers added a run to the lead, 2-0, in the top of the fourth on Spencer Nolan's RBI single. Â
Charlotte put another run on the board in the fifth, 3-0, on Logan Poteet's single.
The 49ers finished off the score with two more in the sixth, 5-0, on Chandler Riley's home run to make that the final score.
Next, Tulane plays the second game of the series against Charlotte starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

The loss drops Tulane to 34-25 all-time against Charlotte…This was the second time that Tulane has been shutout and the first time since against the road series against USF (3/28)…The Green Wave are now 0-2 on Thursdays this year…The Tulane pitching staff recorded 12 strikeouts in the game…It was the program's 26th game with double digit strikeouts (12 more than all of last year…Jason Wachs extended his on-base streak to a career high 20 games with a hit…He also now has hit in 17 straight games which is both a career high and the high for any Tulane player this season…In his on-base streak, Wachs is hitting .418 with 20 runs, 28 hits, nine doubles, a triple, six RBIs and 15 walks…The relief appearance for Trey Cehajic was his first of the season after 12 starts.
