
Baseball Falls Twice to Florida Atlantic on Saturday

The loss in the first game went to Luc Fladda (3-5). He went 1.1 innings while surrendering nine hits and eight runs. The loss in the second game was credited to Tayler Montiel (4-2). Montiel allowed seven runs in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts. Grayson Smith was a bright spot for the Tulane bullpen in the two games as he threw 4.1 scoreless with four strikeouts in the completion of the Friday game on Saturday afternoon.
Gavin Schulz led the offense in the two games with four hits, three runs, a home run, two stolen bases and seven RBIs. Connor Rasmussen totaled four hits, four walks and a pair of RBIs. Jason Wachs scored four runs with three hits, three walks and two RBIs. James Agabedis III had a pair of hits and RBIs. Matthias Haas had three hits and three runs driven in. Kaikea Harrison totaled two hits, three walks, four runs scored and drove in a run. Tanner Chun had two hits, two runs scored, two walks and an RBI. Hugh Pinkney walked four times and had a pair of hits. Michael Lombardi scored three runs with two hits.
Game 1
Florida Atlantic scored first on Brando Leroux single up the middle in the first.
Tulane quickly tied the game up at one in the bottom of the frame as Rasmussen laid down a bunt single to first.
The Owls quickly took the lead back in the top of the second with nine runs on Carter Brady's run scoring single, an RBI ground out by Kyle Boylston, a bases loaded single from John Schroeder, a Leroux single, a Jake Millian RBI fielder's choice and a grand slam from Nick Romano. In the frame the game was also halted for 2 hours and 37 minutes due to weather.
Tulane scored two in the bottom of the frame on a single by Agabedis and a sacrifice fly from Gavin Schulz to get to within seven, 10-3.
The Green Wave drew five runs closer in the third on a Wachs bases loaded walk and a grand slam from Schulz to close to 10-8.
FAU answered with six runs in the fifth inning on Marshall Lipsey's single, a fielder choice RBI ground out by John Schroeder, a single by Leroux, a bases load walk by Romano, an RBI single from Brady and a bases loaded walk by Lipsey to again go up by eight runs, 16-8.
Tulane would again draw closer with four runs in the bottom of the fifth on Harrison's single, a Wachs sacrifice fly, an infield single by Haas and a bases loaded walk by Chun to make the score 16-12 before the next lightning delay caused the teams to suspend the game until Saturday.
When the game restarted both teams were held scoreless for the rest of the game.
Game 2
Trey Cehajic started for the Green Wave in the second game of the day and went 4.1 with three runs allowed and three strikeouts. Will Clements threw 1.1 innings with a strikeout to close it out after Montiel.
Tulane scored first with three runs in the second inning on a double play ground out to plate Pinkney and a two-run two out single by Schulz.
Florida Atlantic scored the team's first run of the game on John Schroeder's single in the third
Tulane scored a run in the third inning on a Chun single through the right side to increase the lead to 4-1.
The Green Wave added three runs to the advantage, 7-1, on Rasmussen's single, a sacrifice fly from Haas and a wild pitch to score Schulz.
Florida Atlantic scored two runs in the fifth, 7-3, on a throwing error by the Tulane pitcher on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt play at third and a single by Nick Romano.
Tulane got the run back in the bottom of the frame, 8-3, on a single by Haas.
The Owls got two runs closer in the top of the sixth, 8-5, on a home run from Emilio Gonzalez.
FAU took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, 10-8, with five runs on John Schroeder grand slam followed by a run scoring single from Jake Millian.
Next, Tulane plays the final game of the series against Florida Atlantic starting at 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
