Jan 10, 2026 | Men's Basketball
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A record-setting performance from beyond the arc set the table for Tulane men's basketball (12-4, 3-0) in an 85-52 rout of UTSA (4-12, 0-4) on the road Saturday afternoon. The Green Wave hit a program record 19 three-pointers to race past the Roadrunners for the team's largest road victory over an American Conference opponent since joining the league prior to the 2014-15 season.
With the win, the Wave earned its fifth consecutive victory and improved to 3-0 in true road contest this season. The victory also secured Tulane's first 3-0 start in conference play since the Wave opened competition in Conference USA 7-0 under head coach Perry Clark in the 1996-97 season.
The Green Wave offense was in rhythm throughout the entire contest against the Roadrunners. Tulane connected at a 45.5 percent clip (30-66) from the field and 45.2 percent (19-42) from downtown while dishing out a season-high 22 assists. The 19 makes and 42 attempts from three-point range both marked program records.
The trio of Rowan Brumbaugh, Curtis Williams Jr., and Asher Woods paced the offensive attack for the Wave combining for 62 of the team's 85 points. Brumbaugh led all players in the game with 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting including matching his career high with six made threes. The redshirt junior guard also matched a career-best with seven rebounds while adding five assists and four steals.
Williams followed with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting and a career-high six makes from beyond the arc. The performance was the junior's third game with 20-plus points this season and his fifth with at least three three-pointers made. Williams also finished with four assists and a pair of steals in the contest.
Rounding out the leaders for Tulane was Woods with 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The senior guard connected on 6-of-10 shots from the field including a pair of threes while also tallying three assists and two steals.
Following a bit of a back-and-forth to begin the game the Green Wave mounted a 15-0 to take control with 28-11 lead over UTSA. The advantage eventually reached as many as 20 points late in the opening frame before Tulane hit the locker room leading the Roadrunners 39-21.
Tulane knocked down eight three-pointers in the first half while shooting 39.4 percent from the floor. Brumbaugh and Williams each hit three three-pointers and Woods added a pair in the opening 20 minutes of play. Defensively, the Wave held UTSA to just 25.8 percent shooting from the field and surrendered second fewest first half points of the season (21).
The Green Wave continued the offensive onslaught into the second half shooting a stellar 51.5 percent from the field and 55.0 percent from three-point range. Tulane knocked down 11 more threes in the second frame to build its largest lead of the day at 38 points (80-45) with 3:29 remaining.
In the closing minutes the Wave cleared its bench allowing redshirt junior Jake Shapiro to sink the final three in the record-setting performance. Tulane ultimately closed out the road victory 85-52 to move to 3-0 in conference play.
Next, the Green Wave will return home to host UAB in Uptown on Wednesday, January 14. The game between Tulane and the Blazed is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
