Tulane Completes Sweep of Memphis Behind Kimpson’s Career Night
Feb 19, 2026 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – In her first-career start, freshman Shiloh Kimpson delivered a near triple-double to help power Tulane to a 69-54 triumph Thursday night over Memphis at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave improves to 10-16 (5-9 American) as the Tigers fall to 8-18 (2-11 American). With Tulane defeating Memphis just two days ago on the road, the Wave has secured the season series sweep.
Â
Tulane outshot Memphis on the night with a 42.1 percent clip to the 37.9 percent mark of Memphis. The Wave connected on five three-pointers while holding the Tigers to just two. Though Memphis won the glass, 40-34, Tulane thrived in the turnover battle. The Wave committed just 14 turnovers while forcing 19, which turned into 25 points off turnovers. Memphis accrued just 10 points off turnovers.
Â
The Wave defense was fierce in the first half to create an early margin, holding the Tigers to a 27.6 percent shooting clip through the opening 20 minutes. This includes an 0-for-6 three-point mark. Tulane's offense fed off the defense as the Wave hit on half of the team's shots, shooting an even 50 percent at 13-of-26 in the opening half.
Â
Four players scored in double figures for Tulane with Mecailin Marshall's 15 points topping the squad. The freshmen thrived Thursday night as Shiloh Kimpson was next on the scoring list with 12 points in her first-career start. The rookie delivered six rebounds and 10 assists for a double-double, the first of her career. She tallied new career highs in all three statistical categories. CC Mays and Amira Mabry each scored 11 points. Mays added four steals with three boards and two assists. Mabry collected five boards and two steals. Mabry's point total moves her career tally to 1,041 as she moves into 29th on Tulane's all-time scoring leaderboard.
Â
Dyllan Hanna led the glass with 12 rebounds, one shy of her career high. Mabry notched the only Tulane block of the night, and her two steals joined Mays as the only two on the squad with multiple swipes.
Â
Tulane struck first in the contest when Kanija Daniel put home a layup almost two minutes in. However, Memphis responded with the following eight points to pull ahead 8-2 at the 6:45 mark. Mecailin Marshall broke the run with a pair of free throws, sparking a Tulane response of 16-straight points. CC Mays followed with a score, and Marshall tied the game. Jayda Brown connected on a three-pointer for the lead, and the Wave rolled to an 18-8 advantage with Shiloh Kimpson's score with just 43 seconds left in the quarter. Memphis broke the run with a free throw, but Daniel buried a three to close the quarter with Tulane ahead 21-9.
Â
Dyllan Hanna opened the second with a layup, and Memphis followed with a jumper at the 9:19 mark for its first field goal since the 6:45 mark of the first quarter. Kimpson responded with a three-point play, and after the teams traded blows, Amira Mabry tallied seven-straight points on her own with two jumpers and a three. Memphis responded to break her run, but Marshall added a layup in response. Both teams notched free throws just under the three-minute mark, and the defenses for both squads clamped down with the next score being a Tiger free throw with 50 seconds remaining, which closed the half with Tulane in front 39-20.
Â
The second half opened with Memphis fouling Mays on a three, and she knocked down all three foul shots. After back-to-back Tiger scores, Mays again tallied a bucket. A Memphis score was followed by Hanna going inside to spark a six-point Wave run. The Tigers notched back-to-back buckets, but Marshall swished a trey in response. The teams began to trade free throws until Memphis closed the third with a three, shaving the margin to 56-34.
Â
Daniel opened the final stanza with a layup, but Memphis found a groove and rallied for nine consecutive points to pull within 58-43 at the 5:14 mark. Mabry broke the spell with a layup, and Kimpson added one of her own. Memphis collected six more points in a row, but Hanna had a score in response. Mabry then tallied a steal that led to a Kimpson three, which served as the de facto punctuation mark for a 69-54 Wave victory.
