Baseball Tames Tigers 15-5 In Run-Shortened Victory

NEW ORLEANS  – The Tulane baseball team (14-12, 2-1 American) ran the winning streak to three games with a 15-5 victory over Grambling State (8-15) on Wednesday, March 25, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The program has now won five of the last six games.
Jack Brafa (3-0) started for Tulane and allowed one run in two innings with a strikeout in earning the victory. Blaise Wilcenski surrendered two runs in 1.1 innings worked with a strikeout. Tom Vincent threw an effective 1.2 innings with four strikeouts. Sam Larson gave up a pair of runs in 0.2 innings with two strikeouts. Beau Sampson walked a man and recorded a strikeout in his 0.1 innings. Jude Abbadessa threw a scoreless inning with one hit allowed
Nate Johnson led the offensive attack with six RBIs on his two hits and two walks. Trent Liolios had a pair of hits and four RBIs. Kaikea Harrison totaled a pair of hits, three walks and two runs scored. Tanner Chun walked three times and scored a run. Tye Wood drew four walks, had two RBIs and two runs scored. Bryson Ayala scored a run. Jack Johnson had a hit and a run scored. Nolan Nawrocki walked and scored a run. Hugh Pinkney scored a pair of runs, had a hit and walked.
Tulane scored first with three runs in the opening inning on bases loaded walks to Wood and Nate Johnson followed by an infield hit by Liolios.
Grambling scored a run in the second on Chris Marcellus' double.
The Green Wave got the run back in the bottom of the frame on Wood's second RBI walk of the game.
Tulane added a pair of runs to the advantage, 6-1, on a wild pitch to score Jack Johnson and an RBI single from Wachs in the third.
Grambling again answered in the fourth with a pair of runs, 6-3, on a Marcellus and Hisani Johnson singles.
Tulane got four runs in a hurry, 10-3, on Nate Johnson's grand slam in the bottom of the fifth.
The Tigers drew two runs closer, 10-5, in the sixth on a Hasani Jones double.
Tulane ended the game in seventh with five runs. Nate Johnson single to drive in one, Liolios cleared the bases with a three-run double and Harrison ended the contest with an RBI single
Next, Tulane gets on the road and plays a road conference series against UAB (15-10, 1-2 American) from March 27 – 29 in Birmingham, Alabama at Young Memorial Field. Games times are 5 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m.
