Tulane Drops Regular-Season Finale to South Florida
Mar 7, 2026 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane held a slight 42-41 edge entering the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon against South Florida, but the Bulls rallied to outscore Tulane 17-7 in the final frame en route to a 58-49 victory at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse in the final game of the regular season. The Green Wave falls to 11-19 (6-12 American) as the Bulls improve to 20-11 (13-5 American).
Â
Defenses were stifling on both ends as neither side shot more than 34 percent on the day. USF posted a 33.3 percent mark compared to Tulane's 28.1 percent clip. The Wave hit three three-pointers with the Bulls doubling that tally at six. USF also thrived on the glass, outrebounding Tulane 51-35 with a 19-9 offensive boards advantage. This led to seven more second chance points, 15-8. Tulane forced more turnovers, claiming 16 giveaways while committing 15 and notching an 18-10 points off turnovers lead. The charity stripe was pivotal as Tulane went to the line 16 times, knocking home 14 of the shots. USF went 8-of-11 at the stripe. Despite Tulane reaching the line frequently, USF cleaned up the fouls with zero committed in the fourth quarter, not allowing the Wave to continue taking advantage of the free shots.
Â
Mecailin Marshall led the charge for Tulane as the only Wave player in double figures with her 18 points. She converted a pair of threes while going an unblemished 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Marshall contributed a career-high 11 boards to top the team and notch her second double-double while adding a pair of steals. Shiloh Kimpson and Kanija Daniel tied for the team lead with three assists apiece, and Tampa native CC Mays led the way with three steals against her hometown school. She entered the contest needing just six points to reach 1,000 for her career, and she finished the day with exactly that to become the third Wave player this season to reach the threshold (Jordyn Weaver and Amira Mabry). Tulane's three blocks were dispersed evenly as Mabry, Dyllan Hanna, and Jayda Brown each swatted one.
Â
Tulane started the scoring with Kanija Daniel putting home a pair of free throws. USF then converted eight-straight points, including a pair of threes. After two more free throws, Jayda Brown secured Tulane's first field goal as the Wave went on a seven-point run to pull in front 9-8. USF pulled ahead 11-9, but Mecailin Marshall swished a three to push the Wave back ahead. The first quarter concluded with a Bull put-back as USF held a 13-12 edge going into the second quarter.
Â
Daniel kicked off the second quarter with a layup at the 8:41 mark, and two minutes of heavy defense followed as USF scored its first points of the frame with 6:35 on the clock. Another two-minute scoreless stretch ensued with CC Mays breaking the spell at the 4:15 mark as she converted a three-point play. USF tied the contest, but Mays hit twice at the stripe. After a Bull three, Marshall scored inside. Brown added a bucket, but the Bulls closed the half with a layup to pull within 23-22 at the break.
Â
The teams traded baskets to kick off the third quarter, and Shiloh Kimpson added a score as part of back-to-back Tulane buckets. After USF scored, Marshall popped her second three of the game. A Bull bucket was nixed by a Dyllan Hanna lay-in, but USF hit a three and followed with a layup to reclaim the lead. Another trey pushed the Bulls ahead 38-34, but Marshall caught fire to score the next eight points of the ballgame and flip the margin to a four-point Tulane lead, 42-38. The final three points of the frame belonged to the Bulls, however, as they trimmed the Tulane lead to 42-41.
Â
Brown and Marshall went back-to-back to kick off the fourth frame, but USF posted the following eight points to pull in front 49-46 with 3:20 to go. Amira Mabry delivered a big three-pointer with exactly three minutes to go to tie the game at 49-all, but the Bulls hit a three of their own in response. This make sparked USF, who stifled Tulane the remainder of the game and finished the contest with nine points in a row to claim a 58-49 win.
Â
