Baseball Drops Finale to UCSB
Mar 10, 2019 | Baseball
Â
Four of Tulane's (10-6) seven hits were home runs, while Frankie Niemann added an RBI single and Brendan Power earned his first collegiate hit. For Hoese, he extended his team lead in the category to eight on the year, while Glancy, Haskin and Mathews each hit their second, with Mathews having two base knocks.
Â
UCSB (11-2) plated runs in six innings on Sunday, getting multiple runs in four. The Gauchos scored two runs in the first, two more in the second and four in the third to jump out to a big lead, as the visitors got three runs off Tulane starter Chase Solesky (0-1) in just an inning of work on the mound.
Â
After Tulane scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth, the Gauchos plated sixth in the seventh and another in the eighth as the deficit would be too tough a challenge to overcome in the end.
Â
Chris Troye (2-0) allowed two runs on two hits in four innings of work Sunday, striking out five and walking four for UCSB. Offensively, the Gauchos produced 12 hits, with eight different players earning hits, and four earning multiple hits. Michael Tevin drove in six of UCSB's 16 runs and scored three times.
Â
Mathews opened the register for Tulane in the fourth with his home run, as Niemann plated Kobi Owen to make it an 8-2 score.
Â
A solo home run for UCSB pushed the Gaucho lead to 9-2 in the top of the fifth, but in that same frame Hoese and Haksin each hit home runs left field within an out of each other to make it 9-4 in favor of the visitors.
Â
After Power earned his hit, Glancy hit a towering shot to right for the two-run shot to plate the game's final two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Â
Tulane will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting the McNeese State Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Â
