Rasmussen Slams Wildcats to Give Wave Series Win

The win gave the home team (2-1) the series win over the Wildcats (1-2).
Wave reliever Carter Benbrook (1-0) got the victory, registering a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.
NU's Trent Liolios (0-1), also a reliever, got tagged with the loss, allowing four runs (all earned) on one hit and two walks.
Rasmussen also walked twice and scored three times. Right fielder Brock Slaton also went 2-for-4, as did left fielder Gavin Schulz. First baseman Brady Marget, third baseman James Agabedis III and catcher Colin Tuft all scored twice.
For the Wildcats, second baseman Owen McElfatrick went 3-for-4 and designated hitter Bennett Markinson tacked on two RBI. Left fielder Tyler Ganus, second baseman Owen McElfatrick and shortstop Tony Livermore all scored twice too.
The visitors jumped on top 5-0 through three and half innings (three in the first, one in the third) but Tulane responded with two runs on an RBI bunt single by shortstop Marcus Cline and a sacrifice fly to right by right fielder Brock Slaton.
Rasmussen and Schulz tied the game at 5, each with RBI in the seventh before Northwestern pushed the advantage back to two with a pair of eighth-inning tallies.
That's when the Wildcats' pitching problems took shape and the Green Wave benefited with three bases-loaded walks, setting the stage for the bomb from Rasmussen.
NU scored twice in the top of the ninth for the game's final margin.
Tulane will be back in action Tuesday for a home date with Nicholls at 6:30 p.m. The Colonels went 3-0 this weekend with a home sweep of Sacred Heart.
NOTES: Tulane third baseman Michael Lombardi stole his first base of the season in the third inning, while Marget ripped his second double to right field in the seventh and, later, came around to score … Rasmussen posted seven RBI for the weekend … Catcher Colin Tuft drew five walks during the series.
