Nov 9, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Tulane volleyball (11-14, 3-11) was unable to complete the season sweep of UTSA (13-12, 6-8) as it dropped the second meeting of the year 1-3 to the Roadrunners in San Antonio on Sunday.
With the loss, the Wave fell to 1-57 on the road this season including an 0-6 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, UTSA improved to 7-6 at home on the year with a 4-4 record against league opponents.
Four players recorded double-digit kills in the match for the Green Wave. Avery Burks led the team with 17 kills to mark her 23rd performance with double figures in kills this season. She was followed by Ava Derbes and Lauryn Mack with 13 kills apiece while Sabrina Skyers added 10 of her own. Zoe Rachow set the table for Tulane's offense attack as she tallied a match-high 45 assists which marks the fourth time this year she has recorded more than 40 assists in a match.
Defensively, Burks led four players for the Wave with at least 10 digs in the contest. The junior posted a team-high 16 to record her 15th double-double of the season. Rachow and Dayla Ortiz followed with 14 and 13 digs, respectively, while Annabelle He added 10.
Tulane took the early advantage over the Roadrunners in the opening set building a 14-9 lead. In a tightly contested set UTSA managed to pull the score back to a tie at 16-16 before the two teams traded the lead three times. After the teams met in one more tie at 22-22, the Wave closed the set strong to win 25-23.
The second set was another back-and-forth affair as Tulane and UTSA knotted in 20 tie scores and exchanged the lead 10 times. This time it was the Roadrunners that finished with the final two points to down the Wave 23-25.
In the third set the Green Wave held a slight over UTSA early until the Roadrunners tied the score at 10-10. The two teams went on to trade the lead a pair of time with Tulane making the larger run scoring five-straight to pull ahead 16-12. However, UTSA did not back down eventually pulling the score into ties at 21-21 and 22-22 before downing Tulane 22-25.
The Wave started strong in the fourth set to flip the momentum back in its favor. Tulane jumped out to a 16-6 advantage before the Roadrunners began to fight back. UTSA mounted a 15-4 scoring run to come back and take the lead at 21-20 before a Tulane timeout. Unfortunately, the timeout by the Wave was not enough to slow down the Roadrunners as Tulane went on to drop the set 21-25 and lose the match 1-3.
