Baseball Falls 10-3 To Xavier on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (14-5) saw the three-game winning streak snapped in a 10-3 loss to Xavier (8-12) on Saturday, March 15, at home on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Blaise Wilcenski (3-1) started and took the loss for Tulane as he allowed five runs (two earned) in 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Garrett Payne allowed three runs in 1.2 innings in relief with two strikeouts. Gavin Smith went 1.2 innings with a run allowed and two strikeouts. Michael Devenney threw 0.1 innings while Kross Howarth had a scoreless frame with a strikeout. Logan Hurd surrendered a run without getting an out. Alex Ainsworth worked the rest of the ninth with a strikeout.
The win was earned by Xavier's Luke Hoskins (1-0) as he started and threw 5.1 innings with one run allowed and five strikeouts. Joseph Chavana surrender two runs without recording an out. Jake Nobe threw 3.1 scoreless innings. Jack DeTienne struck out both batters he faced in the ninth to finish out the game.
Kaikea Harrison led the offense for the Green Wave with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Connor Rasmussen scored a run. Gavin Schulz had a hit and an RBI.
Xavier took the early lead on a two-run home run from Issac Wachsmann in the second inning. The Musketeers added two runs later in the frame when the ball hit by Aeden Anderson was dropped in right field and was followed by a base hit from Jake Lambdin.
The Musketeers added a run in the fourth inning on the fielder's choice from Carter Hendrickson to put the score at 5-0.
Tulane got on the board with a run in the bottom of the frame on a double from Kaikea Harrison.
Xavier again went up five runs, 6-1, on the sacrifice fly from Nolan Tucker in the top of the fifth.
Tulane scored two runs in the sixth on a bases loaded walk to Gavin Schulz and a sacrifice fly from Harrison.
The Musketeers added three runs to the lead in the seventh on a Wachsmann double, a run-scoring wild pitch and a single from Luke Hammond.
Xavier finished off the scoring in the ninth on an RBI single from Jake Lamdin.
Next, Tulane wraps up the series with the third game against Xavier University on Sunday, March 16, at 12 p.m. on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
