TULANE GAME NOTES
New Orleans, LA - The Tulane baseball team (15-6) opens American Athletic Conference (AAC) play by welcoming Wichita State (7-13) to Greer Field at Turchin Stadium for a three-game series starting on Friday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. The game times for Saturday, March 22, is 6:30 p.m. while Sunday, March 23, has a 1 p.m. first pitch.
Media
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Boron (play-by-play) and Joey Brockhoff (color) on the call. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action for all the three games on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio for all three games is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Promotions
On Friday the promotion will be Country Western Night where the first 250 fans will get a Tulane Baseball Cowboy Boot themed shirt. It is also Family Weekend where a 4-pack ticket deal will be available all weekend long additionally it is Friday Night Bingo. Sunday is a Riptide Kids Club Day where all Kids Club members receive free game admission, will be able to run the bases following the game and there will be a giveaway of collectible Tulane Baseball cards plus a postgame autograph session with Kaikea Harrison, Jacob Moore, Logan Hurd, Hugh Pinkney, and Tayler Montiel
Pitching Matchups
Tulane is slated to start lefty Luc Fladda in the opener on Friday evening against the Shockers. Fladda has been the team's Friday starter in each of the first five weekends of the season. He is 1-1 on the campaign with 37 strikeouts in 28.2 innings worked and only three walks. The 6-1 lefthander went 5-3 last year in his first season as a member of the Green Wave, sporting an earned run average of 4.77 with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 83 innings.
On Saturday, in the second game of the series, Tulane starts 6-8 righty Trey Cehajic. Cehajic is 3-1 on the year with a 2.57 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. He worked as the team's Sunday starter in each of the first two weekends but moved up a day in the rotation against Pepperdine and North Dakota State. He best start of the season came against North Dakota State as he worked a career-high six innings against the Bison in limiting them to two runs. Cehajic hails from Shreveport, Louisiana and is in his second year with the program. As a junior he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his 19 appearances. He placed second on the team with four saves while totaling 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings thrown and a 0-2 record.
The Sunday starter for Tulane is to be determined at this point depending on the results and bullpen usage in the two earlier games of the series.
The Shockers will counter with Grant Adler on Friday, Brady Hamilton on Saturday and still to be determined starter on Sunday. Adler is 1-1 on the season with 28 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. Hamilton is 1-1 with a 5.32 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23.2 innings worked.
Scouting Wichita State
Wichita State (7-13) lost two of three to Louisiana Tech over the weekend. Camden Johnson has been the team's best hitter with a .375 batting average, 17 runs, 30 hits and 18 RBIs. Josh Livingstone is hitting .329 with 24 hits, six doubles, two home runs and 13 walks. Aaron Arnold has been the program's top reliever with a 3-0 record, 0.77 ERA plus 14 strikeouts in 11.2 innings worked.
Brian Green is the head coach of the program. He is in his second year at Wichita State and his 11th season overall as a head coach after previous stops leading the programs at Washington State and Nevada. He led the Shockers to the AAC Championship Game where the team fell to Tulane.
Series History
Tulane is 17-13 all-time against Wichita State since the start of the series in 1993. Tulane went 3-1 against the Shockers last season including a dramatic 11-10 victory over Wichita State in the AAC Championship Game that catapulted the Green Wave into the NCAA Regionals on Jackson Linn's home run.
Last Time Out
The Tulane baseball team (15-6) lost the team's first midweek game of the year by a 14-4 score to visiting Lamar (16-7) on Tuesday, March 18, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
J.D. Rodriguez (2-2) started and allowed three runs in an inning with two strikeouts. John-Paul Sauer surrendered five runs in 1.1 innings worked with a strikeout. Wes Burton gave up three runs in 1.1 innings worked with three strikeouts. Julius Ejike-Charles had 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts. Henry Shuffler was solid out of the pen with 1.2 scoreless with two strikeouts. Michael Devenney allowed three runs (two earned) in his inning with a strikeout. Jacob Moore finished this one out for Tulane with a scoreless ninth.
Connor Rasmussen led the offense with two hits and an RBI. Michael Lombardi recorded a hit. Andrew McKenna had a hit and an RBI. James Agabedis III had a hit, a run scored and two walks.
The Green Wave were outhit in the game 13-7 and also struck out 14 times.
Notables from the Lamar Game
Following the defeat, Tulane dropped to 5-1 in midweek games this season. Connor Rasmussen has now reached base in 19 straight games after two hits against the Cardinals. He also tied Matthias Haas for the team lead as this was his ninth multi-hit performance of the season. The loss dropped Tulane to 17-7 all-time against Lamar and made the program 306-163 all-time against Southland Conference opponents. The Tulane pitching staff recorded 13 strikeouts against the Cardinals in the game to reach double digits for the 13th time this season. The Green Wave have allowed double digit runs in four the team's six losses. The 14 runs allowed were the most the team has surrendered since giving up 17 to UC Irvine in last season's Corvallis Regional (6/2/24). The Lamar contest was the first game that Kaikea Harrison did not start at shortstop or even play this season.
Next
Following the three-game conference set against Wichita State, Tulane travels across town to take on UNO on the road on March 25 at 6:30 p.m. The team then plays the first conference road series with a trip to Tampa to take on South Florida (10-8) from March 28 – 30. The team starts the following week on the road as well with a trip to take on Southern Miss on April 1
