Apr 12, 2025 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (22-14, 6-5 AAC) lost a 4-1 home contest to UAB (18-17, 4-7 AAC) on Saturday evening, April 12, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Trey Cehajic (4-2) got the start and lasted 2.2 innings while surrendered four walks and two runs to take the loss. Will Clements then entered from the bullpen with two men on in the third inning and got out of the jam. He finished his outing having thrown 2.2 innings while allowing two runs plus three walks and recording one strikeout. Carter Benbrook was the next man out of the bullpen for Tulane. He allowed just one hit in 3.2 innings while striking out a pair.
Matthias Haas led the offense with a pair of hits. Michael Lombardi, Hugh Pinkney, Jason Wachs and Jackson Linn all had a hit. The team's run was driven in by Pinkney and scored by Haas.
Colin Daniel (4-3) allowed just five hits plus two walks and one unearned run Brendan Conner threw the final two scoreless innings to record his fifth save of the season.
UAB scored first with a pair of runs in the third inning on RBI ground outs from Wesley Helms and Nick Hollifield.
Tulane cut the deficit in half on Pinkney's RBI single to plate Haas in the fourth. The run would prove to be all that the Green Wave could muster against the Blazers' pitching staff.
The Blazers got the run back and one more in the top of the sixth on the RBI single from Alex Cheeseman and the run scoring base hit from Helms.
Tulane's best chance to climb back into the game came in the eighth inning when the team loaded the bases with two outs on a walk, single and a hit by pitch only to see a ground out to end the potential threat.
Next, Tulane plays the series finale and the rubber match of the weekend against the Blazers starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
