Volleyball Vanquishes Georgia State During Pelican Invitational Day 2

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball is 2-0 in the Pelican Invitational after tonight's defeat of Georgia State 3-2. The victory is the third in a row for the Green Wave and was thanks to exceptional teamwork and a number of all-time individual performances.
The Green Wave opened the match with a win in the first set, starting strong with a final score of 25-20. Tulane next won in the third, beating the Panthers 25-21. The Green Wave maintained its mission in the fifth set, coming back to win 15-11.
Ava Derbes had an outstanding match, leading the offense with 13 kills and hitting .414. After reaching a career-high of eight kills against UC Riverside last night, she broke her record again tonight thanks to an additional five kills. She also put up two block assists and nine digs.
Sabrina Skyers was a force at the net, accomplishing a career-high nine total blocks, with 7 assists and 2 solos. She also hit .300 with eight kills. Zoe Rachow excelled, achieving a career-high 13 digs alongside 23 total assists, while Katherine Crosley contributed 19 assists.
The Green Wave amassed 20 total block assists, 16 more than Georgia State. Avery Burks rounded out the attack with 10 kills, 3 blocks, and 30 receptions.
Freshmen Amelia Haggins, Dayla Ortiz, and Juliet Galla all took to the court, and Haggins landed a momentous kill in the fourth.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 21, the Green Wave will face the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff at 3:00 p.m. Then, they will host Rice on Friday, Sept. 27 at 2:00 p.m.
